A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

:(I want to replace the bulbs in my gauges with Led bulbs but I don`t know what Led bulb number to use in the speedo and tach. I have a 1979 GS 1000E

Welcome to the site. Be patient the honorable Mr. Bikecliff will send you his information packed MEGA-WELCOME. :D Take some time to visit it. By doing so, you will find an awesome library & references to other items. For example, Bikecliff's site a has this link to Mr. Matchless' great tutorial for building your own.

If that doesn't work, take a bulb and measure the height etc. and see if this would work.

I'm replacing all of mine as I also replace the guage faces with those I got from Rudy. I've got a couple of technical things to work out with what I want to do and then see if I can turn it into a tutorial as well. Don't wait for me however:rolleyes:. Ride!!!

BTW, edit your signature to add the bike & year there and also your profile and add a general location. If you ever need other help:confused:, someone could be living nearby & could swing over AND you won't have to type the bike info again & again & again & again........

From what I've seen so far the base on the smaller automotive LEDs is too big for use in the gauges.

Why would you want to use those anyway? I would think that Led bulbs would be much more heavy than the stock ones:D

I must be dense; I just can't open the Mediafire files. I really want to look at that article about fabbing your own instrument LED illumination.

Whats the stock bulbs base? All the bulbs have a base number like your tial light is a 1157. From there it should be just a quick Google search and order the one you want. Im going the same LED way myself.

I have red LED bulbs from www.superbrightleds.com in my gauges. Haven't put them in the turn signals yet. The LED 1157 tail/stop light bulb I had got wet and I just haven't replaced it. They sell the flasher you will need to convert turn signals to LED bulbs.

Do your bulbs have the brass, 1/4 turn base or are they the glass, minature wedge type?

my bulbs are the 1/4 turn type

On my 81 I spliced in wedge type sockets from my GK gauges so I could use th0se type LEDs. If you can find a wire harness from an 82 or later you can use the ones from superbright.......
