    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Lengthening Cam Chain?

Is this doable?

My 550 to 750 project is set back again, as my cam chain is too short to wrap around the cams, due to my base spacer i placed to help the pistons clear the head/valves. I could either add two master links, or buy a larger chain for the bigger bore bikes (they have more links) and remove links as necessary. As long as i have my 20 or 21 links between the cam sprockets, won't i be okay?

I'm at wits end trying to get this project to work and i appear to be at my last hurdle.

Any help would be apprecited.

P.S. i know i'm not supposed to have a master link, but many people do it and without problems.
 
Go ahead and find out have many links the old chain is and then how many more you need to make it work then hit all the race shops and parts stores. Maybe the 750 chain will work as is. With alittle luck maybe the size hasn't changed to much from the bigger bikes.

I hope you are still using the same oem sprocket ratio "number of teeth" that came with your motor. You know the crank spins twice as the cams only spin once. Like me I have a 750 head on a 1100 with 750 cams but I had to used 1100 cam sprockets cause the 750 sprockets were bigger "more teeth" that matched up to the 750 crankshaft.

But if you're still using your same crankshaft and head assy you should be OK

Yep yep, same head and camshafts...

Thank you very much, i'll get to measuring tomorrow and then see where i need to go tomorrow.

The bike has been apart for many months now, and it's just sitting there looking at me as i take my gsxr out... I want to get it done!
 
I think all GS cam chains are the same length. I read it in my parts unlimited book a while ago. I can check later.
 
I know on the GS1100 it's 120 link chain and you can get them in 122 links if needed.

I think the 550 has 116 pins, the 850 120 pins and not sure of the 750??
