If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Looking for info on the GSX600F (Katana) Igniter

As I've detailed in my" Never Assume" thread, I am now in need of an igniter. That search is underway but in the meantime I read an obscure post that someone indicates the 90's GSX600F (katana) boxes work.

Out of curiosity I'd like to find out but in order to get the right box I need the identification/model numbers. Would anyone have such information or could point me to where I can find it?

If they do work, these igniters might be easier to find and could save a lot of us and help us resurrect these "lumps"

As always, any and all information and assistance is appreciated.

Cheers,
Spyug

I have found some numbers for these early igniters but looking at pictures on E-bay the pins are in different locations than the connectors on the 550 harness.

I will then need to figure out what wires go where and in this regard I wounder if anyone has access to one of these bikes to be able to tell me what wires go where and or can provide me with a picture of same?

As always, I appreciate all assistance.

cheers,
spyug

Got a junker 96 (I think) 600 Kat I'm parting if that helps....Can do "most" of the wiring harness to if that will help .Let me know

Thanks for the help fellas. Pete sorry to say but none of the links work for me. All I get is error pages.

David, I'm still trying to figure my way around with these Kat boxes and I'm not sure if the "newer" ones work or if Kat igniters even work at all. I'm just running on somebodies (very brief) say so at this point. I can tell by looking at pictures (on e-bay) that the boxes appear the same and have the same connectors but we know that is no guarantee. It is also obvious that the pins going in to the larger connector on the Kat box are in a different configuration than those on my 550 box.

At this time, I'm trying to figure out what the pinouts are on the Kat box or at least the colour of the wires going to those connectors so I can translate to my wiring harness, if possible. I don't want to put you out but it would be very helpfull if you could look at that harness and igniter and tell me what lines go to where in the connectors. The smaller of the connectors are the lines in from the signal generator so those should be the same. Its the ones going in to the larger connectors that I need to know about.

I don't want to buy those parts from you just yet as I've just started to try and figure this out but if you could PM with an idea of price I would also appreciate it.

This is a PITA but in some ways its interesting and keeps the brain active trying to figure this out. It would be really cool if we could make these Kat boxes do the job.

Thanks again guys,
Spyug

No probs at all Spyug, my post was more about what models in the GSX600F range share the same ignitor, and I actually didn't mean for there to be links there...

They should be just pointers to the Suzuki parts fiche though.

I had no idea if it would help you or not but figured it might...

Thanks Pete. From What I can tell, the 88 and up to 97 Kat igniters could work. The earliest ones (i.e 80s series) are serial numbered 32900-19C00, 19C20 and 19C40 among others.

From the little I've been able to figure out the igniter for the 600cc bikes are the ones that have the best opportunity of working as I read somewhere that the GSX600F Katana when introduced in 1988 was a bike that was pretty much cobbled together from existing parts off the shelf including the electronics. With the displacement and engine configuration close to the previous model (i.e. 550) it stands to reason that the igniter would be the same or very close. I am not so certain that the 750 Katana box will work, however.

At the moment, I am still researching and will be talking with my pro wrench who is very knowledgeable in this stuff. If he has one of these boxes lying about I may dive in and try it out if I can determine the pinouts.

I'll let you know how it all turns out.

Cheers,
Spyug

I have a pin out for a GSXR750 1997 igniter 32900-33E01 that I made up a while back. It has the functions of each pin and the wire colours. If it will help let me know.

Thanks Matchless, I wouldn't mind taking a look but I suspect that it could not be the same. I've got to start somewhere, however, so if you would send it to me it would be greatly appreciated.
