Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I'm taking my dear old 78 GS1000 on a 700 mile trip at the end of August. Longest bike trip I've ever taken. Most my riding is done around town or to and from work. In these instances, I don't really notice the stock handlebars too much. However, on trips of more than half an hour, my wrists start hurting. It isn't from the throttle springs, because it happens to both wrists. My other bikes, no problem. It feels like my hands should be turned more so that my knuckles are facing forward instead of the tops of my thumbs and forefingers.

I remember seeing glowing accolades for either Daytona bars or Euro bars - I can't remember which. I'm 6'2" so not much to worry about stretching.

If someone could help me find some better bars before my trip I'd really appreciate it, and my poor wrists will thank you!

Thanks,
Jay

I use Throttle Rockers on both the left & right side. Lets me relax my grip and just rest my hands when they're not actually doing any work. Relieves the tingling pins & needles feeling in my hands. Especially on long rides.

Available in most cycle shops.

It's not even the grip so much. When I first started riding, yeah I had a death grip on the bars, but as I've become more comfortable on a bike, I ride rather relaxed. Like I said, if I turn my hands inward at the wrists so that I'm riding almost like pushing a grocery cart, it feels so much more natural - instead of the rototiller feeling.

Get a set of "Superbike" bars from Bike Bandit and never look back...It's the only way to fly. :-D

To slightly oppose that idea. I've got Euro bars on mine which are very similar to the superbike bars, but I think the wrist position is more natural.

I have "Super" wrist's Billy....not those limp "Euro" wrist's...

I think it's that YOUR limp wrists bend to the superbike bars, but my superior Canadian wrists will not bend like yours, and require the anatomically correct "Euro" bars.

I just fitted the Euro bars from Bikemaster on 1000.

http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/ They have all the specs listed on there...

I'm 5'8" & it feels a bit of a stretch for me but definitely the wrist position is much better, I was having exactly the same problem as you (even with throttle rocker which helps...)

I must have those superior wrists too... I can even spell properly as well ;) :D

I never expected this post to get this funny. Thanks for the replies guys. So, I guess the "Daytona" bars are out? For some reason they stick in my head. It's not that I want them over something better, it's just that for some reason I keep falling back on them.

Being from upstate NY, I'm close enough to Canada that perhaps the air from the Great White North has affected my genes and blessed me with "Super Wrists." I may have to try the Euro bars.

I didn't like the Daytona bars that I had on my 1000. Too much rise, and too much pullback. Getting some weight over the front end by using Superbike bars (or limp wristed EuroBeaver bars) will help the handling a bit too.

Btw, here's what the Superbike bars look like on a 78 GS1000.

Bikemaster Euro "Super wrist" bars on my 1000G - sorry for crap pics. I've rotated them back a bit since then so I don't have to stretch so far.

They definitely seem to give more feedback & confidence in the twisties although I haven't tested properly (in the Santa Monica mtns or similar) yet...

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Since the Bikemaster bars are rather inexpensive (compared to Flanders!) I may end up getting both and seeing what works best. Is vibrtion an issue, or should I not worry? I'm sure it's nothing a set of bar ends wouldn't fix.

No issue with the Manic salamanders I have fitted..... Less than the originals.

Dan :)

i just threw some BikeMaster superbike bars on the GS450E yesterday. i had no cable or brake line issues installing them. they feel great and after 50 miles my wrists are feeling fine. the way they sit it seems i get more leverage turning, and i can see better out of my stock mirrors

they were $17 and i can't say the usual vibrations got any worse, but they may just transmit to my head to quickly...
