    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Nope no way. Nick had been downright gentlemanly today.

Darnit.....the site's apparently been hacked again. Someone got in and is using Nick's log-in. When will this conniving and treachery ever stop?
:D :D :D
Maybe we should contact Frank or Gnaht and have Nicks membership suspended untill they can sort this mess out ???:D
Just a thought

Having been informed of possible violation of GSR charter, specifically the impersonations of another persons logon, I have looked into this matter.

Due to evidence being provided, and to earlier mentioned suggestions of other forum members, and these being in additions to my personal observations, yes - it is appearing Mr. Nick's logon is having been compromised. Therefore, there is being high likelihood that we are probably having no other options than that of the closing of this highjacked account. However, being democratic person that I am, and also a very open-minded person, I am willing to be leaving this up to vote in the forum. All those who are wanting to be representing their opinion, please be making your vote no later than Tuesday, 6pm California local time. This will be determining factor in decision of the closing of Mr. Imposter Nick's account.

The vote will be being held in General section of forum, in thread being titled: "Imposters Out"

Man.......I need to thank Nick.........because it it wasn't for our little fencing match last week, I would have never have know how ruthless you "Three Musketeers" could be.

Having said that there is very little that I like more than a "Superbly Wicked Sense of Humor"

You guys deserve to be formally Knighted into the Royal House of Wicked....LOL

BTW....I think we're stepping on the original post

Back to the original post, if you need a set of eyes to check over any bikes for you, let me know. I'd be happy to go bike shopping with you.

$750 is too much for a bike that's been neglected like this. Offer the guy no more than $300. If he gets insulted, remind the owner that it's his own fault for letting the bike go to hell. Count on spending an additional $1,000 or so, and lots of time, to make things right.

Steering stem bearings should be added to the extensive list karl_ibsen came up with.

Read my story in this website: http://www.thegsresources.com/stories/gs_lowincometouring.htm . A thorough, professionally done carburetor cleaning and replacing of o-rings, gaskets, etc., costs about $400 to $500. I recommend you do that if you buy this bike. People here will tell you to do it yourself, but I disagree.

Nick

All good advice and I would like to add that although I support the do it yourself thing for those who of a mind to do so I also am one that pays myself to have it done right. Me personally I know a bike mechanic who is top notch for this type of thing I always just pay him to set it up as I know it will be right and his work is guaranteed.

Definitely low ball this guy before shelling out the cash. People sell bikes like this in road ready condition for what he is asking.

I agree with Hoomie 100%. We each have to find our own balance.....wax on, wax off....wax on, wax off....hahaha

I am also a guy that will pay to have the more complex stuff done by a pro and have it done right the first time. But I still like to tinker, so I'll do the easy stuff and the stuff that if I do mess it up I can still limp it in to the shop so they can bail my ass out. Can I say "ass" here???

Besides, If I don't take a chance on messing something up once in a whiile how will I ever learn. I'll just stagnate and become a miserable, negative, obnoxious, broken and defeated old man who will be reduced to just criticizing everone else's posts so I can hear myself talk....... LOL

Balance Hoomie.....you and I, we got balance

Remember......beauty my fade with age, but stupid is forever !!!!
