A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Well got my bike started up for the first time and all lights were working. All of the sudden I lost my gear indicator lights, oil and neutral lights. Turn signals never worked. I really just need to know where to start. I accidentally grounded the wrong thing on the starter solenoid and got a bit of smoke but then fixed it immediately. Lights still worked at this point but then went out about a month later. Any idea what color wire runs these? I need to buy a chiltons.

I'll bet your brakes and horn don't work, either.

All of the circuits that you mentioned are fed from the same fuse.

It is the second fuse from the end.

I need to buy a chiltons.
No, you need to go to BassCliff's site and download a manual.

.

Not to mention Chilton's doesn't make a manual for our bikes - you'd have to get a Haynes or Clymers

Lol. Yes clymer is what i meant. Yes the horn is out also. I visual ly inspected the fuses n they look good but ill switch it just to make sure. I didnt see a manual on the 80 gs1000gl but ill look again. Thanks. Any idea what colors wires i should trace? Gotta pull the tank off anyways to do carb adjustments.

well im still trying to figure out the color of these wires for the gear indicators. pulled the fuse and its good. Bikecliffs site has a wiring diagram for an 82 gs1100 gk would that be the same as my 80 gs1000gl?

Did you replace the fuse with a new one? Sometimes the glass fuses can look good but are actually blown. You have a loose connection or a wire with worn through insulation that's grounding against something. Finding it can be a PITA but it shouldn't take too long, I just dealt with the same thing and it turned out to be in the headlight bucket.

Yeah replaced the fuse with one I had laying in my toolbox. Need to get to the store and get fresh ones just to make sure. Ill have to take the tank off and chase the wires.
