A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well funny thing happened on the way to work today.... I lost my bolt that holds on my shift lever for my '80 450E. (OK not that funny especially to me) I can pick another one up at a yard not too far from home, its just getting there that worries me. I was able to get a cable-tie that allowed me to shift from 2-3 and back, but I wouldn't use that for more than the mile or two I was from work.

There is a Home Depot close by, and if anyone has any idea how I can rig something to work for about 40 miles or so, PLEASE let me know.

Thanx,

If you have a mole wrench (vice grips), you can squeeze the lever clamp with it, to stop it slipping and stripping the splines.

Carry the lever into HD and get a bolt to fit. It's more than likely a 6mm.

The lever won't come off, and wouldn't help if it did. Its the bolt that holds the shifter near the peg not the case.

Scavenge a bolt from under the seat - the battery box can do without one of its bolts until you get a new one (just don't disconnect any electrical grounding wires).

Missing Bolts

Ok, I had this EXACT same thing happen to me...

Here's how I fixed it...

I took the shift lever assembly, and the foot-peg off. I then went to my local hardware store and found a bolt that was the right size to fit the threads on the other side...

However, Suzuki used a stepped bolt, so the part that goes through the shifter is thicker than the part with the threads...

So I got a metal sleeve from the same hardware store that had an ID close to that of the bolt, and an OD that would fit tight inside the shifter lever... Cut the sleeve to size, and presto! New bolt...
