If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have 2 questions. i have a 1981 gs450l that i am in the slow process of cleaning up and modifying. we has some bad hail the other day that damaged my tank and front fender and seat. On to my 2 questions. I am looking at making my on handle bars and modifying my pipes. I was wondering if i just used some 7/8" diameter chromoly tubing would that be sufficient?I just want a straight set of bar's with 0" up and 0" back. As far as the pipes i was wondering if anyone as ever just cut the mufflers off and ran 2 straight pipes that end at the foot pegs. My mufflers looked decent until the hail dents. How would a 450 sound without mufflers? any info is appreciated.

Other than being dented a bit your mufflers should function well enough to not need cutting off. I agree with Nessism, open pipes are annoying to everyone, yourself included, as you will need to rejet the carbs to suit the open pipes.

what about cutting the mufflers off and using emgo 12" shorty mufflers? i dont look like the look of the stock pipes, but i don't want to be that guy the neighbors hate. i have plans to modify the seat and fenders. as far as the handlebars i think i like the straight bar look with 0 up and 0 back. just cut a piece of tubing at about 26" to 28". the diameter of my bars should be 7/8" if i remember correctly, right?

Much better. Harley mufflers are high quality and cheap since they get discarded in mass. Got a HD dealer close by?

i have one harley dealer close by. why? some day i will get the bike i want, which is my dads 83 gs750 that he put a turbo on.

A lot of Harley's come with shorty mufflers you should be able to get for cheap. Trying to save you some $.

i will have to swing by the harley dealer. what about my idea on the handle bars? will 7/8" diameter 4130 chromoly tubing work for a set of straight handlebars?

Yes, but, if you don't already hace the tubing, buying a set of striaght drag bars might be cheaper. Reread the reply right below your OP.

i saw those bars, but they are a o" up and 3-4" back and i am looking for a 0" up and 0" back. thanks for the site info.

Nessim:
Any specific model harley that you have in mind, that i should use? just so i know what to look for. thanks

Dude, just go there and tell them you are looking for some cheap take-off's and then see what they have to offer. Harley has some pretty small, bullet shaped mufflers that are pretty unobtrusive. If you can find a couple of those you are golden.

Also eBay has a crap load of HD slip-ons that can be had very cheap.
Check there and the HD dealer and compare price + shipping to what the dealer has.

The harely take offs look like these:

You took that kid off a Harley?!?

Then you put him on an L model?

That's like 17 different felonies in most states.

L model? Why I oughta....
Perhaps your eyesight needs checking.
An L model has never been and never will be in my fleet, except for selling parts or to use as an engine stand or sawzall practice.

Mistaking a G for an L is certainly a felony.

First off, that kid is a HER not a HE:p...and it's my little girl:D. This was her first motorcycle ride last year with Tom and she loved it. Haven't been able to get her back on with him again but she did ride with me a few times last year.

Thanks Tom, I forgot about that picture. Just downloaded it to my computer.

Here's another one of her during one of our rides. She's wearing one of those dirt bike armored vests

I can't find her other pictures on this computer though.

Did you get one of those armored suits for yourself yet?
I need one, I've been pushing my luck in the dirt.
