A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Manual and valve question

I have been looking for a manual for my 1982 Suzuki GS1100ES, with no results. I believe that some of the GS1100's were a shaft drive, mine is a chain drive. I dont know if this is why I can find manuals for other models but not mine.

I believe that I have tight valves on one cylinder, or a burnt valve, as it doesnt have near the vacuum the other three cylinders have. i was using a borrowed nanomometer, and it was not pulling any mercury on that cylinder. I used a regular vacuum guage and the vacuum was not steady.

If it has a burnt valve, is this old bike worth repairing? 50k miles, still looks ok, whine in 5th gear, timing chain noises? and leaky fork seals.

I dont know much about these bikes, but from what I gather they were pretty cool in their day.

Pretty cool in their day? These bikes are still cool now...

Basscliff should be along shortly with his formal greeting, however to get you started here's a link to his website where you should be able to find/download the manual for your bike.

I say fix it. Then ride it. None of the problems you described are insurmountable, fixing these bikes just takes patience and time.

If the motor runs which it apparently does ! IT IS worth fixing..
First thing you should do is adjust the valves, check the compression. Then work on the carbs

you have a rare bike as suzuki never made a 1982 GS1100ES.
Unless it's actually an '83, but has a production date in '82. :-k

Yeah, I know it would be an '83, but some people would see the '82 production date and call it an '82. :o

.

titles are for the most part correct.(check your title)
but you may be right...
those 83 ES models are a dime a dozen and the most common model suzuki ever imported.:p

Missmarked?

Perhaps its not an GS1100ES? Thats what the registration says, 1982. And the stickers on the side say GS1100ES.

Anything is possible. An DMV error, wrong stickers, Who knows? How can I properly identify this bike? Or do I have a one of?
