    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My Master Cylinder sight glass is brown, cracked, and unreadable unless the light hits it just right. I want to replace it. Found this on eBay.

Price is right. I think it's the right size. 18mm? Anyone else used this? How hard a job is it?

Also, while I'm doing this, I know I should replace the brake line. It's probably 36 yrs old and on borrowed time at best. Should I go with an OEM line or braided. Anyone know the exact size? Do the numbers in this pic tell me anything about size?

I know the top banjo is a 90 deg. the end that goes into the caliper is straight.

Last question on this topic. Rebuild the piston or "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I've used that sight glass. The hardest part is getting the old one out. I can't remember, but I think I used a torch and melted it out. The new one I pressed in with a vise. I'll be doing another one in bike #2 soon.
 
Have you tried cleaning the window with brake clean?
Braided brake lines only
Rebuild the mc, brakes are life
 
Thanks for the replies. I’ll buy a braided cable once I get it off and measure it.

And, absolutely right. Momentary lapse on my part on even considering not rebuilding the MC while it’s off. Brakes ARE life. On that, do I just buy all the parts on the fiche from BB, Babbitts, other? Or is there a rebuild kit that I should look for?
 
Regarding the sight glass: I have some 1/8" thick Lexan here. I just cut off a small piece, round it off so it's just a bit smaller than the hole, apply a small bead of epoxy around the ledge, set the Lexan in place, then fill in the gap around the edge with some more epoxy. Let it set for a day before moving it, it's good to go.

Thanks Steve. If the $.99 I just spent on eBay doesn’t pan out, I’ll try your lexan/epoxy method.
