    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

MEASURING LEAN vs. RICH

Hi,

in the tech forum I read a lot about re-jetting and getting too lean/too rich, but what's the best way to measure this ?
I know that the theorethical best solution is 14.8 / 1, but how on earth can you know that on your bike ?

I would like to put a new 4-into-1 on my 1982 GS1100GL and get rid of the stock airbox...I would rather go for the separate K&N air filters...

any idea what to do ?

Simple answer, install a Dynojet stage 3 kit. The jets are sized for a header and pods. Done.

No easy to measure mixture directly. Your best bet is to "read" the plugs - check them for color. There is also something called "color tune" but I've never used one and can't offer any feedback.

Good advice.
I also went went with a 4-1 and K&N pods with a Dynojet stage 3. The Dynojets suggested jetting on the needle is lean. I'd raise the needle one or two notches from their suggestion.(lowering the e-clip on the needle will raise the needle)
 
Find someone locally with a dyno that has a air/fuel meter on it. They will let you know exactly where you are at.
 
I use an Innovate LM-1 wideband to tune my bikes. I weld in a bung in the exhaust and put the O2 sensor in, tune the carbs or injection and when I am done I put a plug in it and can use the meter on another project. I have used mine on my dragbike, street bike, Mustang and an injected 56 Bug I tune.
You can record a whole trip and see how it works in all throttle ranges.
