If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Mechanical Noise Help

I like the bike, nice style, bet it hauls. Is that a metalic slapping sound or a sucking sound? Spray carb cleaner near an intake boot see what happens. If it's metalic I know an old mechanic who uses a straight stick to his ear and to the area of the noise and it is enough to isolate a specific noise area? Could be cam slop i've read about from it moving left to right at idle. Good luck and again I like the ride. Sachsaca

Well, apart from the intake noise and the exhaust noise, I am surprised you can hear anything else. :p
Take a really long metal rod and start putting it up against all the possible sources of noise: cam, chain adjuster, intake side of each port, exhaust side of each port, base of the jugs, block, eventually you will get to the point where the noise you are searching for is really loud, that will be your culprit.

Sounds like the bike isn't running on all cylinders and my guess is the cam chain tensioner is not working. Basscliff has a link to bwingers rebuild tutorial so I suggest you check it out - check the valves while you are at it, there could be something funky going on there as well.

You know what! I noticed that the exhaust wrap in the far right exhaust pipe didn't turn yellow like the others. I should probably check spark and fuel. I get back to yous guys.

That's a rather rattly sounding GS. How high is the mileage? Almost sounds like piston slap and it certainly decreases as the revs start to climb.
You had a small puff of smoke out of the right pipe when you first rapped the throttle. If it's blue, you're burning some oil at either #3 or #4 pots.
How hot do the cylinders and head get when the bike is worked hard? Wrapping pipes reduces natural heat radiation which can build up heat in the engine instead.

If it's a cam chain rattle, you had better investigate forth with.

SO i cant hear the sound on the computer here...does it sound like a "wacha cha cha" or more like a "doinky doinky doinky bawooooooooong"??

Cla Claka Cla Clak Cla Claka Cla Claka

I started my bike and tested the spark on Cylinder # 4. The spark looks good. It reaches all the way out if the boot to arc with the sparkplug but the bike doesn't run any differently when the wire is removed. If I put the number 4 wire back on and pull the cylinder 1 wire the engine comes close to dieing and may have died if I hadn't put it back on.

I had a mechanic install a dynajet 3 kit on the bike so I'd be surprised if it was a carb problem. What do you say?

An update to my noise issues.

I pulled the carbs and checked them. The one problem I found was that the #4 float was set to allow to much fuel. The PO had just capped the overflow tube coming out of the bottom of the carb.

The cam chain adjuster was locked so it wasn't self adjust. I took care of that.

With these two repairs complete I still have the noise. Although it sounds like I may have trimmed it down to just one source.

My next move is to lock at the Clutch hub nut. I listened with a mechanics stethoscope and the noise is coming from that area.
