OK this may be way over the top, but I?m thinking about stripping my tank and shining it and clear coating it with something that will seriously protect it. Anyone tried this? Any thoughts. Any pictures?

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Maybe better to go with chrome,I have seen tank's chromed, look's stunnng!
And chrome is a lot stronger than clear coate, if done correctly.

I thought about doing this too but rejected it due to safety concerns. I would probably get into an accident while gazing upon my handsome face in the chrome while riding.

I was actually thinking about just shining the sides and paint the top red for this reason.

This is sound and pratical thinking. You avoid the accident risk while still maintaining the ability to check yourself out in the side of your tank as you approach your ride.

I would've done it, but my tank had way too many dents in it.

Exactly how they did it I'm not sure. But somewhere on the 'net somebody can explain the British technique of chroming the side of the tank in patterns. As far as knee pads go, somewhere on the 'delphi forums' is a new Triumph Bonneville forum that was trying to swing a deal with Kawasaki to get knee pads for their W650 retro bike for the group to apply to their new Bonneville bikes . Apparently big K wanted big bucks for the parts and Triumph didn't offer them. If I was going to apply kneepads I'd use a silicone adhesive like Goop. A magnetic type would only scratch things up and would have a tendency to come loose at the worse possible moments!!! 8O

I'm not sure how they did it but I think that it could probably be done using today's chrome paints. Check out this website.

I have been contemplating throwing a couple of bob at this place to purchase their chrome paint product to rechrome the plastic ring around my rear tailight. From what I've read this stuff is fairly easy to use. You can prep the surfaces with top quality, not bondo, filler and spray a coat of this stuff and the clear over it for a pert near chrome look.

I could have sworn that Omars had rubber tank pads at one point. I was just looking on the site but couldn't find them. The site is confusing to navigate and I didnt look for terribly long so give them a look if you get some free time. I think they were self adhesive.

I have to justify the cost first. I am going through the process of identifying parts that I want to apply the paint to. I have been toying with the idea of painting the front raised portions of the sides of my gastank. The part of the tank where the gold Suzuki emblems (Not Baadges) sit. Other areas might include front headlight bezel, shift and brake levers, rider footpegs, outer fork tubes, maybe striping on front fender, side covers, and tailpiece. Obvioulsy the paint cannot be applied to wear areas. It cannot be applied to rust prone areas, although POR15 would take care of this I suppose. I also have to look at the pracitcality of what I want to do. Can I get NOS for less? I just bought a new rear pillon seat handle for about $60.00 because I deemed it the cheepest and most convient way of refurbishing my worn original. Anyway it is riding season now. Making Suzy look purdy will have to wait until the late fall. I will post an evaluation if I take the plunge.
