If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Guys great info here for someone brand new to Suzuki's. I have a Gs1000 but have no idea to its model? ( E,L,S, etc...) I have ordered a carb rebuild kit but some of the parts didn't match up. It did state that it would fit all models except L So maybe mind is an "L"? My Vin number is

VIN #GS1000-705596

ENGINE # GS1000-141224

Could I possibly have an overseas bike? I am lost here so any info you have will be greatly appreciated.

It might be overseas to you. :D

I wad given the bike for some welding I had done. The guy striped it down to make it a bobber. So there is no body parts except gas tank. I did het it running and a compression test of #1 130 #2 105 #3 132 #4 130 however rough idle from pods I would guess. I will post voice as soon as I can. I would really like.to finish this project. Thanks

Greetings and Salutations!!

Hi Mr. CHRIS MCKINNEY,

The GS1000 "L" model should have leading axle front forks (axle on the front of the forks rather than the bottom). Have a look in the gallery and you'll see what I mean. Post a picture (find out how on my website) and we'll help sort it out. Meanwhile, let me say "Hi!"...

Here is your very own magical, mystical, mythical, mind-expanding "mega-welcome". Please take notice of the "Top 10 Common Issues", the Carb Rebuild Series, and the Stator Papers. Now let me roll out the welcome mat for you...

Please click here for your mega-welcome, chock full of tips, suggestions, links to vendors, and other information. Then feel free to visit my little BikeCliff website where I've been collecting the wisdom of this generous community. Don't forget, we like pictures! Not you, your bike! :D

Thanks for joining us. Keep us informed.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

frame number makes no sense to me highest i have is 540000 on 80E model
hope this helps abit

Yes I do have the leading axle. So does that make the frame an L model. But would that make the engine parts different? If the motor numbers seems to be and80 I guess there was aswap at some point. So is there a sure why to find out the engine model and year ? Sorry but I want to order the right parts it sucks to keep sending them back and waiting to try a new one.

Someone from this very forum posted a link to all of the engine numbers a short while back.
I copied it somewhere. :o Hopefully, someone else has a copy?
It was in German.
I checked both of my 1000's and it was absolutely correct! ;)

Hi,

I have a copy of that German document HERE. The website is located here: http://www.gs-classic.de/index.htm

You can also try the information on this website:

Guys thanks so much for all the info. However my numbers are not in any of those list( not sure why). I have managed to get a hold of a true shop service manual and mine does have all the features of the (L Model). However still not one hundred percent sure. Shouldnt the engine parts be the same as another model? Anywhy I installed the jet kit and the pods and at last I have her running much much better. Not perfect cant get it fine tuned until I get a chance to ride. But does seem to be a little on the rich side. Again thanks to all of you and thanks for such a great fourm.

Basically, all the GS 1000 engines were the same, except for the "82" Katana, that had the 4 valve TSCC engine.
