    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does anybody know af any simple tricks or bolt-ons to give me about 6" more legroom on my '79 750L. I just want to move my controls forward about 4-6". I am 6'3" and the standard pegs are tolerable for short rides, but after about an hour and a half, my legs are screaming at me. I already have highway pegs, and they work a bit, but not enough.
 
Have you considered changing out the handlebars instead? Did it on mine and I can't tell you how much more comfortable it was.

By the way,...I'm 6'4".
 
Yes, my pegs are on the case guards. The handlebars are fine. The upper body position is great. It is just that I am 6'3 with a 32 inch inseam and the standard position forces my legs to bend pretty far past 90 degrees and it causes fatigue after an hour or so.

I'm in the same boat. I'm 6'2" and have highway pegs on my case guards, but still not very comfortable. I'm working on getting a flat seat instead of the one pictured below so I can scoot back a little. I wish I didn't have to though, because it screws with the center of gravity. Hopefully someone will come to our rescue on this topic.

I had the same problem but worse being 6'4" with a 36" inseam. Believe it or not, changing the handlebars and upper body position took a lot of strain off my legs.
 
you might not can see them too good in my avitair but I put mine on my case guards. I have true case guardes, not a crash bar. If you can tell me that your bike has the same motor mounts as an 83 850, I am going to make a better set for my bike, and ifn they come out good, maybe we can set up something for the rest of you guys.
You buy the parts and I'll put them together, or something. Ifn you have a shop and tools, maybe I'll just show how I did it in pics and you can copy, copy?

I was looking at the pics that where posted from the other guy, they look nice, but I dont know how much "push" they can handle. As in how much pressure you can put against them ifn you want to move around on the seat a little, or if you had to do a hard brake test, could they hold your weight being pushed against them while under extreme braking?
The idea I'm working on will give more leg room, and have a lot more support! BTW, I'm 6 foot, with 34inch inseam. Aint nuttin but legs!!! :? Wife said I look like a spider monkey tryin to copulate with a football before I put on my forwards! :wink:

A bar change helps. A seat change can do more. For tall guys (this tall guy anyway) a bucket seat or a stepped seat is cramped misery on two wheels. I don't know if the flat seat from a non L-model will bolt right on for you or not. It it does not, it would be well worth your time to adapt it. I replaced the bucket seat on my GK with a standard G model flat seat I got from PlaneCrazy. It is a whole new (more enjoyable) riding experience. From the cramped riding postion I never felt like I had the leverage I needed to fully control the bike.
 
I am working on forward controls for my gs 1000 right now.Banjoman in his posts are the perfect solution, and mine set will be a way for anyone with a gs anything,800,750,1000,1100 etc to move their feet forward.I t is taking me some time cause i want to hopefully find people here that might want to buy a set from me and want their mountability to be very simple.

AND MY LEGS GET CRAMPED ON MY 85 GS550L
FOUND A ENGINE GAURD AT THE SALVAGE YARD OFF ANOTHER BIKE AND MOUNTED IT UP FRONT OF THE FRAME
AND PUT TO SETS OF FOOT PEGS ON IT FOR DIFFERENT POSITIONS
WORKS GREAT

Thanks for all the input. I have seen Banjoman's setup before, and if I had any skills in welding or fabrication, I'd have done that already. I will look into switching the bars and see if that works. Seat modding is not really an option as I do a lot of two up riding and my girl ain't no small fry neither, and she really likes the step seat.
