    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

motion pro cables

Is it just me or do the motion pro cables (that seem to be the only thing available for my 82 gs 1100) seem to break more than they should. I mean I replace tach and speedo cables at least once a season, usually more, and my motion pro clutch cable just snapped and left me stranded AGAIN.
Luckily I had my back up cable, a monstrosity of a thing that belongs on a yamaha grizzly 4-wheeler that I had to buy for 40 bucks last year at americade, when the last motion pro clutch cable broke, and affix to my bike with about 900 zip ties. It actually works pretty good...but anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on different brands of cables....

Bikebandit.com still shows that OEM cables are available for my 82 1100gl. Might be that suzuki still sells them for your bike as well. May be worth a look. The OEM cables are much higher quality than motion pro and are comparably priced.
 
The guy I used to buy aftermarket stuff (tires, plugs, oil, etc, etc) from was a long-time motorcyclist and ex-racer.

When I asked him to get me a Motion Pro tach cable for my '83 850, he told me to stick with the OEM product--which I'd have to get from a Suzuki dealer.
He could have gotten the Motion Pro cable from his major wholesaler.

There's usually a good reason for advice like that.

I have had no luck with motion pro and/or parts unlimited cables. The tach cable I bought squealed like a stuck pig. The choke cable I bought simply did not fit. BUY OEM. They may cost a little more, but they are cheaper in the long run.
 
OEM cables only cost a buck or two more than Motion Pro crap. It's just inconvenient to wait a little longer.
 
I had a problem with a clutch cable on my 78 GS750E, this broke after a couple of thousand miles after my rebuild.

I have tried to get a genuine Suzuki cable, but two dealers have told me they are no longer available.

The "pattern" one i am using at the moment i don't have much confidence in, so i am searching for specialist vintage cable suppliers to see what the score is there.
