A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Mounting carbs after installing pod filters

So my question is anyone does an additional mount to hold the carbs after removing the air box mount?
From my research I haven't really seen anybody do custom mounts but it seems like a bunch of weight to just hang off the rubber hoses.

I have thought about it but never did anything about it. It seems to me some small steel cable from the frame to some point near the back of the carburetors would take the majority of stress off the boots. I think I need to change my boot O-rings so I may look into it again when I do that.

I've had pods for 15 years without a bracket and haven't needed a bracket.

I think there are some variables to consider.....

I've had the stock boots rip on my GR650. But those were 2 larger carbs on 30 year old boots.

Joe (jwhelan65) would be the man who knows... For my part, once upon a time I had an 1100e, and an ocassional carb backfire at startup would cause the carbs to slip back in the boots a bit. Hindsight says it was likely a function of bad boots. It always seemed to me to be a lot of weight hanging on rubber.

The expression, "tough as old boots" originated somewhere, but I don't think it related to Suzukis.
Never mind the rubbers, when I mounted the SU on the aluminium manifold, I gave serious consideration to making a support bracket for it, but after losing the roundtuit, it's been fine for two decades. I'm not sure a set of rubbers would have lasted that long supporting a bank of carbs.
My gut feeling is that, yes, a bracket would be good for rubber boots supporting carbs. They're expensive enough to buy and why hasten their demise if you're looking for long-term reliability?

All you need to do is run a zip tie from the carb bracket to a frame tube above it. You can adjust the zip tie as needed to take weight off the manifolds. YES, it DOES help with manifold life.
Ray.

i made and fitted a bracket to secure the carbs to my GS, not only does it prevent them from popping off, it also acts as a very good theft deterrent. Worthwhile if you run non standard carbs like smoothbores as they are desirable to the knowledgeable and extremely easy to pinch from the bike if you know how!
