If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi Folks,

I was just wondering what kind of fuel mileage is normal for a GS750? The bike is a 1980 with about 11,000 miles with a 4 into 1 aftermarket exhaust, the carbs just cleaned and bike running fine. It has full faring, saddle bags, and luggage box. I run it fairly hard on regular gas, with 7-8K RPM revs now and then, especially if I am first off a red light. When cruising at 60mph the tack is around 4,200 RPM. My overall commuting back -n- forth to work mileage has been about 34MPG. Is that about you get? I figured it would be better, especially since I had the carbs synced and cleaned ? am I way off? Just curious!

Thanks,

That sounds a little low. I'd expect mid 40s mpg. Are you sure the bike is properly tuned? What are the plugs telling you regarding mixture?

My mileage varies greatly with my 79 750L. It is all in the right wrist!

I have gotten 31mpg on a 90-110 mph high speed run

I have gotten 51mpg on a leisurely cruise along a river at about 50 mph

I average somewhere around 36-38. I have a fairly heavy right arm though, kind of drags on the throttle somewhat.

Is your commute stop and go? My 1100 gets in 30's around town. Running steady out of town it's around 50. My gearing changed this year when I upped the front sprocket to 16 teeth and lowered the rear to 41 teeth (stock is 15/42 on a 630 chain) and that seemed to up the highway mileage, but didn't do much for in town. 4K rpm at 75mph BTW.

And taking off hard does have a large impact on mileage.

I've gotten anywhere from 25- 40 mpg on my 850 depending on riding. Lots of short trips will kill the milage real quick

MPG's around town

MPG's around town

Thanks for the replies -- I feel better now. Most of my riding involves short stop -n- go type trips. :D

I have taken a few long trips running from 50-70 mph but I have never bothered to take the MPG reading. Next time I take an extended run I'll check er out.

Later,

Paul C.
