A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Winter is here in Portland, which means working on my bike but not riding it for 6 months :( I'm hoping to attempt to rebuild the engine to check for worn parts as well as replace a leaking head gasket, but my first hurdle has been to find parts for the rare 425L. I will probably be asking for loads of help/advice all winter, but while trying to find a gasket kit for the 425L, it is nowhere to be found. However I have found a few 425E and 425 EN gasket kits online.

My question is... does anyone know if these engines are identical, or at least near enough so that I could use the same gasket kit? Or should I instead teach myself how to make my own gaskets intead?

Hey mate, welcome!

While I don't know the 425's, I do know that they were a very short run model, so in theory many engine parts should be common.

Get onto www.alpha-sports.com and find the part numbers you need, then use their reverse part lookup tool to see what other models they fit.

I won't be surprised if they fit the same models and even some GS400's and 450's in some cases...

Thanks for the suggestion on the website, it looks like the engines should be identical from the 425 EN to the 425 L. Also... well done on your restore of the 450. I lost about 2 hours of my life just reading and flipping though, and I'm sure I'll be returning to it during the winter. I may even start my own restoration thread, but I'm super bad at updating things online...

Cheers mate, it really took me way too long to complete the rebuild but it was definitely worth it... nearly 20,000km's on and she's still going strong :)

A restoration thread would be cool and I'll certainly follow on!
