A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My bike is suddenly running really rich, seems to flood out at times

About a month ago my bike (78 Suzuki GS 550) started to run much richer and the smell of gas is very noticeable when it is running. Sometimes it doesn't even want to start, sounds like it is flooded when I try to start it. Once I get up to around 55mph it seems to be ok, but it will pop and sputter really bad when decelerating. It also does it a little bit when I first start it and ride it a a lower speed.

I dropped it off at my cousin's garage and am heading back over tonite to see what is up with it. He has rebuilt the carbs for one of his atvs, but hasn't done much actual carb work to adjust them. Will adjusting the needle in the carbs help solve my problem or do I have to rejet them? I popped out the spark plugs last night and two of the four were pretty black. Those are the ones I am gonna comcentrate on.

Anyways, I just want to know if adjusting the needle will help with my problem or should I hold off on doing anything tonite and wait til I can get what I need to rejet it. Also, any idea why it would suddenly start running rich? It ran great before this.

If you have not made any changes (pods, pipe) I don't see why you would need to make jetting changes. When was the last time you cleaned the carbs? It almost sounds like the needle and floats are sticking a bit, or your petcock is on prime all the time. Either could happen on a 32 year old bike.

The pipe was changed on it, but that was long before I got it. It ran fine when I bought it a few months back. I have not cleaned it since I bought it a few months ago, but will go ahead and do that while it is taken apart.
