    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey guys i just bought my first gs 1100 l im a sucker for the older bikes and this one seemed like a good canidate it just has 25k showing runs good but is there any twirks i should be aware of or need to know about also i found stuff for instlling an aftermarket oil cooler is this a good idea and is there any other simple mods a diy guy can do to get a little more performance etc outta this bad boy thanks for your input

Welcome to this GS website as a new GS1100 owner. You will find most any solution to many technical issues from happy GS owners and soon from yourself.

The maintenance is straighforward from do-it-yourselfers with the first year 16-valve TSCC as that of 1980...or was that the 79 chain-driven
"L" model apposed to the shaft-driven "G" model.

It is a suitable and reliable machine once they are well kept and maintained. They are true workhorses that should last your lifetime,
and lifdtime of your kid's kids !!

The information is useful as well as updates and tips. Just do a search
on any subject at-hand as the info will appear. If not, you can always
start a new one.

Period? Has anyone seen the period? We've lost the perod again! Dagnabbit! :rolleyes: Just making the point that a post without punctuation is more difficult to read and less likely to be read and/or understood.

Check out Basscliff's post here. He has collected the best info and put it all in one place. That said, the first task s/b to THOROUGLY clean the carbs.

I would suggest putting your bike info (Year, Model) in your signature so that folks always know exactly what bike you're referencing.

Always a good idea, but in this case, his screen name says what he rides. :D

Touche. However, as you point out, many very descriptive screen names have more than one GS.
 
Hello again,

As exampled in THIS THREAD, be advised that you are considering a 30 year old motorcycle. In it's prime it was very reliable. Now, due to age and neglect, there will be many little things (and maybe a few big things) that will need attention, cleaning, repair, replacement, refreshing, adjusting, tweaking, fiddling with, lubricating, polishing, etc. Once it is restored to its former glory and well-maintained, it will be a pleasure to ride and give you little trouble. Keep us informed.
