A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS425

Will you get a load of this. I just bought this bike (79 GS425) today, and its in good order, it starts up with one kick and the electric starter works fine. Idle is a bit rough and it needs a little TLC. I'm no expert by any means, in fact I am a n00bie, but I thought it was a pretty good deal at $400. Only thing I can't get past is the seat. Its heinous!!! I'd like to put a flat seat on it, something like this
http://www.motorbike-search-engine.co.uk/classic_bikes/suzuki_gt500a.jpg but I'm not sure what seat will fit on this bike as this bike was only made in 1979. Is changing out the seat very hard and will the flat seat fit on this bike? Any help will be sincerely appreciated! Also if you have any resources for compatible parts for this bike I would really really appreciate that too!

Thanks

Nic

I took photographs of what I wanted my (sorry 'bout this) Eddie Lawson Replica seat to look like to a local upholsterer who had a good reputation...gave him about 12 different pics from various angles that I pulled off the net. 2 weeks, $150, and one case of beer later and the thing came out like a 'real deal' and looks exactly correct on my bike. He's done two more seats on two very different bikes for me since (a Corbin looking seat for my wife's 650 Hawk, and a Corbin-ish seat that I had him custom cut for a CB9/11F project that I have)...he says the photos are the key for him. The seats look at least as good at any aftermarket manufacturer and the Hawk and ELR seats are supremely comfy...dont' know about the CB one yet, but it'll be fine, I'm positive.

Good luck, post pics!

Make your own seat

Make your own seat

Start with new foam. use some cardboard to make a make-shift jig and use a electric turkey carving knife. All you need is time and will power to make your ride a great looking bike that will turn heads.

The seat from a 77-78 400 (X or E) is the same, and I think the 1980 450 is too, but I'm not positive. The stock flat seat is comfortable for about 150 miles or so, at least for me. They show up on e-bay from time to time. It should fit right on your bike.
