    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

NARROW lead stick-on weight for '80 gs450?

anyone got a link for LEAD stick ons that are narrow. my '80 450 REAR MAG has a very slight raised center line that the normal straddle clipons won't fit, AND the rim edge itself is too narrow for the 3/4" stickons i got?
i need almost 3 ounces so i would rather get LEAD.
I'm mounting SHINKO 612s and there are no markings that i can see on the tires for the lightest point....and i'm tired of unseating and reseating them..it makes little to no difference at all..it always works out to 2.5 - 3.5 oz
but it will be fugly if I use what i have darnit:(

You could mark the rim and put some of the weight on the inside, just cut them to fit. balance the rim first then the tire..
Should be a yellow dot on the tire to align with the tire stem

now THAT IS A GOOD IDEAR.. thanks.. that would make it less ugly

I don't think I've seen any narrow ones, just use side cutters and make them narrow, file to smooth them out, start with what you need and split them, I'd check the runout of your rim to make sure it's not bent bad, hate to see you with a high speed wobble.

runout is nada!! i love mags!! yipee!! can't wait to go for a run.
BigRich made me a great deal for 'em including a 41 tooth sprocket . mine was 45T so no more wanting to shift into 7th hahahahaha
 
3 ounces is a lot. Are you sure that there isn't a problem somewhere?

the tires (shinko) have no marking, so i tried 3 different mountings.
I know where the heavy spot is on the wheel, but dunno how to find it on the tire. they are directional BTW.

the mag, by itself, balances with between 1/4 and 1/2 OZ.....so the big deal is the tire.
 
I have never used them myself, but I think this is where somebody is going to chime in and suggest Dynabeads.

In addition to how well they (supposedly) work, they look GREAT.

BBT,

I have a stash of lead stick on weights that are 1/2 inch wide. they are next to impossible to find anymore because they are lead and the do-gooders of the world feel they need to save us from ourselves. Send me a PM with your address and I'll put a stick in the mail for you.

Just a suggestion, check with your local MC dealer, last summer I got a couple of sticks 1/2" wide led stick on weights from my local Suzuki dealer at no charge.:clap: I try to buy parts from them for the bikes when possible. They actually have a knowledgeable service counter staff:) They also have a great service department with techs that will help out when they can. Their sales staff leaves something to be desired though.

Without the marking on the tire, you are sort of screwed. Tire balance should be measured for each tire, at the factory. It is sloppy to not do so. I would probably not buy a tire without a balance mark.

Your information suggests that the tire is 2.5 ounces out of balance - assuming that its heavy spot is at the rim's heavy spot. That is too much, in my opinion. I would be inclined to tell the dealer to exchange it for a better balanced tire. Tires are assembled from about 30 components. Many overlap. The overlap is staggered around the tire's circumference so that the cured tire will balance easily. If the balance is heavy, someone didn't assemble the tire properly.
 
ok i did some research and the shinkos have a faint red circle stamp that marks the light spot. I DID find it and it's on wrong. I'll remount it AGAIN LOL and mate the mark with the heavy spot of the rim!!( which is not the valve stem hole BTW) i think it should be less lweight required altho i don't remember where i had it. i had sprayed tire mounting lube all over the beads many times to get it to turn on the rim plus get it seated so i may well have had it not in the optimum spot!!
I have some weights coming( from a nice guy) so i'm going to take a rest tonite.
the front rim i will find the heavy spot and the front tire i can see the mark so it won't take so much time!!! i'll tke a pic when i do them so anyone can see the balance mark.. it is very very faint!!!!
 
the rear still took approx 2.5 oz and the front 1.5
I've had some worse than 2.5 oz, it just was very ugly hahaha .
From the shinko reviews I have seen, they are decent tires for the price, maybe my one was a bit off but for 100 bucks delivered for TWO tires, how can i complain???

I'm researching balancing beads. there are several companies and one person on EBAY is selling them in bulk $1.75/ox and cheep shipping.

I ordered a slew of em ..I'll let you know what happens in the future in a new post!!! :)
 
My front has a quarter ounce, and my rear, about 2.5 oz.

This forum has had many debates over balancing beads. There is no resolution. Sort of like threads on cruisers and oil.

There is resolution for me. I tried them on badly unbalanced wheels. Smooth as silk now. Using them in several bikes, all very smooth at any speed. They are actually heavy ceramic beads used for some form of commercial grinding, can be had for a few bucks a ton, they can sell a lifetime supply for our purposes for next to nothing.
