A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

It's been awhile because of the cold, but I was able to clean the engine up nice and mount it in. Now on to trying to figure out this electrical.
Plenty of stuff yet to do including:
--Polish covers
--Electrical
--Brakes
--Carbs
--Exhaust
--Controls and lighting.

Has anyone ever relocated the ignition key mechanism? I want to keep the front of the bike as clean as possible so I'm trying to think of the best place to mount the ignition.

I relocated mine to the right side headlight mounting ear :)

Shock length

Shock length

With increasing the shock length by 1.5 inches are you worried about change in handling with the decreased trail?

Looking good so far. I have a 78 1000.. I have the same tanks as you and am planning on using the same one as you :-) lol. Where did you grt the clip ons?

I got the clips from Dime City Cycles, they have a lot of caf? style parts.

I am really loving this build, similar tastes. Following with interest

Ok, so I'm making some progress. The engine and carbs are pretty much done. I'm doing the brakes this week and then last is the electric. Here are some recent pics.

I'm keeping what I have on there which is only the bracket used for the stock fender painted black. I don't have much time to ride except putting around town and maybe some short rides. I've only been caught a few times in the last several years so it shouldn't be an issue.

Any plans to swap out the leading axle forks for a non leading GS model?

Those are the small gauges from DCC. As far as swapping out the front end that might be something I might look into next year. Right now I'm so close to being done I want to finish it up. I just got the brake lines in so next week I'll be down to the electrical and that's about it besides little things. (assuming it fires up and runs with no issues) I bought the Polaris RR, but the only thing I'm considering now is if I should do the glass to spade fuse mod while I'm at this point.

I want to hold off on painting the tank since it might be too big for the cafe look.

What tires are those? And what did you use to paint the engine and frame?
