DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does anyone know if I can put a larger tank on my '80 1100L? Currently at the stock 4 gallons, and lemme tell ya, that was a helluva lotta stops on last week's round trip from the D to St Louis...

Have you considered an auxiliary fuel tank ?
We had one on a CX500 and it worked great ...

Is the bike tuned properly and getting decent fuel mileage?

Should be getting around 40 mpg, which will get you about 120-130 miles before switching to REServe.

That is a couple hours of riding, and with that seat (if it's still stock) that is PLENTY.

.

i would think better then 40 no?
on my 82 1100e i was going till 180 then getting gas
and i average 50-52 mpg

I get 42mpg on my 1100. She's not stock, she runs good, and I ride her hard. 4.5 gallon tank, and I get to around 150 miles and stop for gas. Still haven't had to hit reserve yet...

Here are a few pictures of the 3.5 gallon Aux Tank mounted on the rack.
Plumbed to a T fitting near the carbs.
We used the Aux tank as a MAIN and the 2.2 gallons bike tank as a Reserve...
At 50 MPG and 5.7 gallons the CX had an impressive range - More than most people rear can handle
There was a SHUT off valve near the left hip of the rider when it came time to switch...
Turn on the Bike tank at the petcock (Off/On) and turn Off the Aux tank...
Could be done at speed on the highway without looking away from the road and not even slowing down...

Steve,

Yes, tuned up, consistently getting north of 40 MPG.

It will be a lot of work.... I believe there is someone on here with a larger 750E tank on an 850GL. Dan the piano tuner from memory. I think he was aiming for the 850G / 1000G tank but couldn't get it to work & ended up with a 750E or 550E tank. Prob a thread on here somewhere. The bike is a brown one.

:)

I am all for modding our bikes and all. But ...

Why don't you sell the bike and get the one you really want?
