    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Need GS700 spark plug wires

As title says, I need wires. Is anyone aware of any other bikes that uses the same style of wire? Or possibly a cheaper alternative to replacing a wire that melted and came disconnected at the cap. I was thinking about buying universal coils as well. Also if I unplugged a wire from the coil does it no longer work? It just looks so odd, it looks like a prong just sticks into the coil of the wire.

I think any 7mm copper core wire will work. The spark plug caps screw on seperate - NGK makes some nice cap that are about $5 each.

Before you go down this road toward replacing the wires you should see if you can get the wires loose from the coils. The early GS bikes have coils with integrated wires but I think your bike has coils with replaceable wires; there is a plastic clip that holds the wire in. Take a close look and try not to break the clip.

1150 wires are the same.
83 750 wires are the same.
gsxr/bandit/katana oil cooled are the same(differant plug caps)
all these have same coils and wires.(possible differant lenght wires but the same exact clips)
im sure theres more...
those damn clips break (almost) all of the time when removing.
if you make your own wires stay with 7mm, any bigger and you'll just have to skin the outer layer off anyways.
factory wires are stainless and the caps have graphite centers.

Yes my bike has coils with replaceable wires. I was afriad I permanetly disabled them after pulling them out, they don't really have a connector on the end, just a clip to prevent them from coming out.
 
For those that need to replace their coils HT wires on the earlier model Suzukis where the wires don't just pull out of the coils to be replaced then there is a good article on the XS1100 website as follows:

Sure is better than soldering HT leads together and trying to seal against wet weather. And in my opinion better than using the kits for joining the HT leads together from the online suppliers.
 
They are glued into the coils but can be gotten out. After getting the old wires out you need to clean any residual glue out of the coil. When you install the new wire you can use a turn or two of electrical tape around the wire to make a snug fit in the coil. You can tape or zip tie the leads to the coils to prevent them from coming loose. You could also pick up coils off Ebay for about $30 in many cases.
