A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Need assistance please, working on a GS1100ES that I had apart for new gaskets and seals, and won't shift from 3rd to 4th. Bike shifted from 1 through 3rd no problem at all. Took out the clutch and took off the pan to have a look .... the shifting forks are sitting correctly in the slots on both sets of trans gears and the tangs are also in the correct grooves on the shifter cam. The 2 spring loaded shifter pawls were also verified to be in the correct orientation sitting flush with the rear of the shifter cam gear (was told to verify this).

Without the bike running, if I hold up on the shifter, as if to shift from 3rd to 4th, and spin the rear tire, it sounds like gears are trying to engage but not just quite enough (seems like I am not getting full throw on the shifter either going from 3rd to 4th, almost, but not quite). I am a bit baffled by the location of the cam stop too (the lever with the roller bearing and spring that sits in the shifter cam). The manual doesn't illustrate this well enough, does anyone have a pic to show the correct orientation? The roller bearing sits in the slot of the shifter cam, and is between the shifter cam and the trans gear, not below the shifter cam? Seems it can't go any other way. This has me absolutely hand tied.

Are you sure that you have shifter and drum gear in correct start orientation? Maybe you are running out
Of travel here and can't reach 4th

Fixed .... had the cam stop (the lever with the bearing and the spring that rides on the shifter cam) reversed. The service manual I have (pdf copy) doesn't show the orientation clearly so I looked to an online fiche, which ends up is illustrated wrong as per the correct direction it is supposed to face. The fiche shows the round boss on the lever facing the shifter fork, but, it is supposed to face the left side of the case.

Gotta love it when things get fixed. Now are we going to get to see a picture of this build??
