A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

NEED HELP. Starts (sometimes) but dies when I apply throttle

Failed rings are possible, a compression test should confirm that
Also, could just be a build up of oil from the overfill

I don't have a compression tester but once saw that ilit should be enough pressure to blow my finger away if I cover the hole after I remove the spark plugs and both sides certainly do that... If I can get my hands on a tester I'll do that but in the mean time, what can be done about an oil buildup? Or should I plan on taking apart the top of the engine anyways...?

Got a compression tester. Will check and respond this afternoon... What should I expect?

Test with motor warmed up, throttle wide open
150 lbs

I can only check it when it's idolate because of whatever condition I'm having whenever I apply any throttle it chokes and dies

That's fine, not to put words in his mouth, but Big T meant for you to run the engine for a while to get it warm and circulate. Then SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. Then remove your spark plugs and install your Compression Tester Connections in the spark plug hole. Then With the throttle twisted all the way open, do the compression testing.

Thanks Rich and Big T! Ran my compression test as indicted below, left side gets 170 PSI and the right gets 175 PSI. Still oil fowling the right side after I had the plugs in and let the engine warm up

So, not the rings
Did you clean the airbox and check the air filter after the oiling issue?

Big T, if oil on the right cylinder plug isn’t coming from below(rings) then must be coming from above? Does this mean a valve seal change is in order?

Jonathan, can you put your bike year and model in a signature? I keep forgetting what bike we’re talking about.

Thank you for all your help so far. You guys got me from not running at all to able to turn over and run for a few minutes. In sure once this oil thing is figured out I'll be on the road!

What do you guys suggest next?!
