A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 7/11 Katana which is in great condition, but Ive only owned it for about 2 months. Whenever Ive tried to start it, the starter motor sounds like it turns over very slowly, but the bike always starts within a second or two - until the weekend. I hadnt ridden it for about 3 weeks and it didnt start right away, so it got to the point where it wouldnt turn over at all. I clutch started it and rode it for about an hour, but after then stopping for about 20mins, it wouldnt start again. There is planty of power to run the lights, turn signals etc - nothing is dim - but not enough power to start it.

Are the starters suppose to sound slow or is my starter motor not working as it should ? do these symptoms sound like a simple battery replcement job?

Any help appreciated :D

A quik way of checking, remove your battery, use some jumper cables and a good battery,car...etc.the starter should turn over pretty fast.
If it dosent by pass the relay, still nothing, check all wireing and the starter switch.
Still nothing! pull the starter motor out and get it checked.

Thanks Paul,

I'll try your suggestion tonite. Im borrowing a multimeter from work this arvo to check the volts as was recommended on another post (14.8v @ 5000rpm) to see if its charging ok. I was also advised to check the amps when cranking over the starter by a guy at work here (mechanic) - do you know what amps it should have?

BTW - being an aussie, (Im in Sydney) can you reommend any places in Oz that have good bits for my bike - Im finding it difficult to get some good local knowledge.

Cheers

James

Best place for old suzuki spares is Mick Hone motorcycles 0398900304,keep,s most parts in stock.
They mail out the same day, they turn up here the next day.
And they KNOW bikes.
Not sure about the amps for your bike,if you do a search on this site something should turn up.
Good luck!
