    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I just got a 83 GS750ES, I know this sounds crazy, but what is the firing order for the bike.....I think the wires are backwards or something be cause it pops out the carbs sometiems, and through the exhaust the rest. I had i running at one point, but I think some of my jackass friends might have switched a few wires or two....I know on my honda the wires went like 1-4 in order.....the one the suzuki are like 2-1-3-4 from left to right if you are sitting on the bike. and there is a wire that is yellow with a red stripe, and a black with a yellow stripe by the starter soilenoid, I am having to use a screw driver the jump the soilenoid to start it cause the button isn't working and I figured one or both of the loose wires are the cause of the button not working. The bike has 17,XXX miles on it, I don't know the life of a timing chain on a bike so who knows if it is the chain!
 
Sitting on the bike, the left coil goes to the 1 and 4 cylinder-the right coil to the 2 and 3 cylinder. If I remember right the coil wires are both color coded so matching them should be easy. Timing chains are good for 30,000+ miles unless you are running a modified high lift valve train. The tensioner on these motors uses a spring to keep the slack out of the cam chain-these springs sometimes stick allowing extra play in the cam chain. I would suspect the tensioner over the chain itself on a bike with less than 20,000 miles. One other small note, if the bike came with a very old factory service manual , one of the diagrams showing the proper cam positioning for valve clearance adjustment is shown backwards. I noticed this years ago, if may have been corrected in later editions, but I am sure it caused a few people to scratch their heads as I did. These were great bikes- they were set up very lean from the factory for EPA purposes, but are hard runners. I have 45,000+ miles on my 83 GS750ED with extensive modifications and have never had any problems with it. Good luck, Ed.
 
ok, this will sound crazy, but what CYL is #1? the far left one sitting on the bike, or the far right one? Sorry, I am used to hondas....
 
Yes, sitting on the bike cylinders 1-4 are left to right in order. Good Luck, Ed.
 
ok, the left coil pack when sitting on the bike, the left terminal is #1, and the right is #4? and the right coil pack the left terminal is #2 and the right is #3? The wires aren't labled, so I really have guess! Sorry for all the questions
 
Yes, the wires should also clue you in as they are sized in lenth to fit each cylinder. The left coil should have only one wire that reaches all the way over to the #4 cylinder. One you get them sorted, you can label them for the next time you take it apart. Good Luck, Ed.
 
Well, I got it running but I think I must have a hole in the piston, or something is terribly wrong....I am getting gas in the oil BAD, and the bike is smoking like hell, and oil and gas is coming out of the exhaust....it will burn/leak out of the exaust all the 2 1/2 quarts of oil I put in the bike before it even warms up! So if you are interested in any parts le me know cause I am going to part the POS out...the fairings and the rims are already spoken for....
 
Or, you could get a book, pick up a wrench, fix it and learn something.

or I could just part it out, and modifiy the fairings and gas tank, and forks to fit my CB750 honda which I know a hell of a lot more about... :roll: Anyone else have any smart comments?? I have 3 motorcycles in my apt complex, and this one is just taking up space, so if you want parts from it better speak up! :lol:

I guess Honda inline fours are COMPLETELY different.

Apparently he doesn't want our help after all.

Too bad he's going to part out a perfectly good GS when he could quite possibly fix it with a simple carb cleaning...............

Maybe he's more polite on Honda forums!

it's not that I don't want your help, I appreciate each and every one of your suggestions, without yall I woiuldn't have gotten it running. The carbs were rebuilt a week ago by a local guy that owns his own motorcycle repair shop and races GSXR's he specializes in suzuki, and I took it to him after I got it running, and he thinks since it sat for so long with no air box something might have gotten into the cylinder(s) and cause some serious damage...I wouldn't mind fixing the bike, but I have a VFR 750 and a CB 750, and I have no idea what i would cost to fix the suzuki, and really don't know a whole lot about them....
 
I guess my point is that a Honda DOHC carbureted inline four is pretty much the same as a Suzuki DOHC carbureted inline four. Troubleshooting a problem is just the same. You might be able to spend a small amount of time troubleshooting the GS and possibly end up with a sweet bike. Keep asking the questions, there's plenty of experience on this site to get you through almost anything.
