A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

new DYNA S ignition system

Agemax

Forum Guru
got mine today, far less fussy than the other electronic system i had fitted and not affected by light. gonna fit it tomorrow and see how he sounds :p

what an improvement. so much smoother at idle and pick up is more responsive. money well spent me thinks

What year is your 1000? Was the installation straightforward? Would like to get rid of that extra black CDI box on my 1000....

You'll want to add a rev limiter if you're like me and don't spend too much time looking at your tach. I put a Dyna S on my '78 1k two years ago and I love it. The power delivery is so smooth with it compared to the old breaker points.

its easy to time up. set it statically on full advance with a 12v bulb connected to the coils. this is quite accurate but then check it at about 2500rpm with a strobe light

Dyna S 12 volts

Dyna S 12 volts

With the addition of the Bosch relay modification to supply a true 12 volts to the coils and you have a truly solid system. And it's not that difficult or expensive.

The Dyna S is such a fantastic unit that I can't understand why this is not the first mod everyone does.

I'm totally ignorant on this issue, so please forgive me for asking-what would this mod do for me over and above my stock electronic ignition? ('81 GS650G)

Nothing, unless your ignition fails.
It is cheaper than replacing the stock parts.
For the older bikes without electronic ignition, it will run better than a points ignition in poor condition, needs no adjustments once it is set up and no periodic maintenance ( points or condenser replacement ).

I can't tell any difference in running smoothness or power between my two GS 1000 engines, one with Dyna S and one with points, as long as the points are working correctly. If they are timed the same, they run the same.
