A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

yesterday i went to my local small backward mower shop in kaniva for some screws for my xs650 5mm x35 4off,, and also i asked if he had ever ever changed a tyre on a motorcycle ,,as this guy is big and occasionally rides his new ROCKET,, and he told me his rear tyre costs him when he has to replace it ,,just over $600... he recommended an expert to change my tyre the trouble is in the wimmera thres no experts to speak off . so i was happy paying $163 delivered to my front door by tnt ,, for a front tyre 100/90vx19 which will give me a slightly thinner tyre on the rim than my existing cracking 100/90hx19,,, i was going to use black boot polish and plug the cracks like the guy in new zealand that ran the fastest indian did.... but fortunely i did think better ,,and put the boot polish away ...regards david :):)

I get my tyres from the local car tyre place . They can get pretty much what I want (can take a week or so ) , fit and balance for free , no charge to get rid of the old tyres and beat anyone else for price by $30 per tyre . I run Bridgestone Spitfire II's and swear by them for sticky (in all weather) and mileage .
Cheers , Simon . ;)

Car places up here wont touch the bike tires, think it cost me about $35 a wheel to mount and balance as long as I rolled the wheels in myself and bought the tires from the dealer. So if you got a system like that going you are doing fine. Oh and I think those are the same tires I run, 8k miles and still going strong.

I just ordered a set of Bridgestones for my 650 yesterday from the local stealership, they are going to get rid of the old ones and install for free, grand total $270. Kinda steep, but cheaper than if I had to pay shipping. I would buy cheaper online and get them delivered if it were the same price or lower, but I don't have the tools to do it myself. :( Yet.

I have done a fair bit of research and I think I am going to try active balancing with 1 ounce of .2g airsoft BB's in the front, and 2 ounces in the rear tire. I know a few people who swear by it, and the research seems to back up the claims, or at least well enough so that I will give it a go and see what happens.

Think I got mine for $200 for the set, but then $70 to mount and balance the pair so works out about the same.

Like I said though the Spitfires have done me well so far, about 8k miles and you can hardly notice any tread gone. I think Steve here on the site uses them on his wifes 850 and gets 15-20k miles a set.

this is what is going on the front to match up with the rear battlaxe, bridgestone 100/90Vx19tubeless battlaxeBT45,,,a wiggly line down the centre,, and each side at angles it has grooves about 43mm long and a couble at right angles to them ,, i had a guy on saturday ear bash me ,, saying i should be able to remove and replace solely with a rubber hammer,, i don,t know wether thats before or after drinks......anyway if i just keep saying ... i think i can i kkknow i can ,, i,ll be O.K regards david.:):)

Rubber hammer? Maybe. Rubber Sledgehammer more likely, depending on how stuck the beads are to the rim.
Definitely need a set of tire irons, or something similar to pop the bead around the edge of the rim.
Makes me wish I kept my tire machine and balancer. :(
Lots of good instruction and info on the GSR and youtube for changing tires without a machine, looks pretty easy with the proper tools.
