A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am considering purchasing a 1978 GS 750 from the original owner. I am wondering about the availability of parts for a bike that is nearly 25 years old--is this a problem? I am also mechanically challenged so I am looking for a good motorcycle service location in southeast Wisconsin. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.

Wow from the original owner that is cool...........You can still get parts and I would recommend buying a service manual.......Ebay has a lot of old GS parts for sale all the time

I have a 78 GS750 that I bought from the original owner last fall, but I can tell you this: there are very VERY few good m-c shops in existance... I am yet to find one in MN. I bought mine and there were few problems with it.. some electrical bugs, and brakes at 30K, tires, stuff I knew was coming... but other than that, most of the other problems came from my fiddling.

I havent had any problem at all getting any part for my 79 750E.
I've been able to get everything I needed in 3 to 5 days. Oddly, the most difficult thing has been tires as the dealers here do not stock any narrow, tube type tires for street bikes so I'm looking at a week to ten days for them.

Hey Earl did you check with Dennis Kirk...That is where I got mine

Now that you mention it Jay, Yes I did. Bought a 81 750E parts bike that has mag wheels for this purpose. Problem is double front disks on it and my ol 70 has a single. Fork spacing wrong and cant change trees because bearing surfaces in steering head are different. Same problem with the rear swing arm spacing doesnt match up between models. They have differenct rear frame geometry and no place to mount mufflers if I change swing arm.
CAnt use 81 mufflers because they will not clear rear axle on 79 model.
I'm working on milling some custom hubs to insert into the mags to make everything match up, but It aint no easy bolt in swap it job.
The best I think I will be able to do is to convert the double disk front mag to a single :-) I'm working on it. :-) :-)
