    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Last week, My brother and I, went for a bike ride to Portland Maine for a lobster dinner. We left NY on Tuesday and had a great dinner on Wednesday. Friday morning, I was working on my 1982 gs850gl in Montpelier,VT, when Steve intruduced himself and immediatly lended a hand. He pulled out his tool box and commenced an expidited evaluation of my gs. Thank you Steve, the bike ran great on my return trip to NY.

Welcome Eric! Nice to have another member "fairly" close by! Steve is a great man! You were in good hands! Glad to see you made it home safely!

That Steve is a regular Champion of Justice! The GSR business cards with his name on them is an especially nice touch. Welcome! Don't suppose you have any.... PICTURES of that bike, do you?

Steve's like the Johnny Appleseed of the GS world. He travels everywhere, planting nuggets of knowledge in our brains, as well as confidence in our hearts, so that we may go forth and pay the kindness forward. Or at least save us from screwing up our bikes worse than they were......

Thank you for the warm welcome.
Cabele guy - you couldn't have described Steve anybetter.

Allie - this is the first group I have joined, so there is a learning curve. I am pretty resourceful though and will get pics up soon.

Sweetp - glad to see you are not to far from me. Ty for the well wishes.

Eric, nice to see that you made it home OK.

Steve,
Tried your hyper link and it stated I did nto have administrative privelidges to access. Unable to see your side of the story.

NYEric, it's because Steve posted that in the OffTopic section which means you can't read it until you have ten posts under your belt first.

With that said, I'm glad to hear he was able to help you and was wondering if you'd show up. Welcome to the site.

Cowboy up,
Thank you for the info. Looks like I have to get posting. I will show up soon. I will put up a before and after pic with a commentary. I have just ordered a bunch of parts, from vendors listed on the forum, for a tune up. Steve has graciously offered to come to my house and work on my gs850gl. I will post pics after and talk about the changes with my gs850gl

Dang wrong NYEric, thought you might be the one from Long Island, he has a 80 GS1000GK? it's the shaftie....

Unless he did something like I did to my 850, there was no 1000GK. They were only 1100, and started in '82.

Lol. What does shaftie mean? I am new to the bike world.
That would refer to the shaft drive, instead of a chain.

Careful if you bring up the topic asking which is better, that is almost as entertaining as asking what oil to use, which tires are best, or what is the proper date to change the tires from winter air to summer air. :D

I solved that air problem by buying a portable air tank.

Now I can fill it in February to be sure I get the best quality of winter air and keep it handy for June, so I can have my tires stay cool all summer.
