A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

what are you looking for? Chain, shaft, sporty, cruiser. Complete project or something to work on slowly. Gs bikes pop up around the detroit area and toledo all the time.

I think a 750 or 850, not too concerned about chain or shaft. There's a couple on craigslist now actually. There seems to be a lot of the L models with the stepped seat, but I do prefer the standard seat. From what I read here I can always shave the seat foam and get a more "normal" seat. Something will come up, they sold a lot of these bikes.

Dude, where are you finding these?? An 850G for $500 that has no major issues is a bargain. This one is not showroom condition, but I wouldn't call it rough either. It's miles ahead of every other bike I see for that money. Lose the fairing if it's not your thing. If the PO doesn't have the stock headlight and turn signals, you'll have to hit eBay for those.

If I had room in my garage for more than two bikes, that's one I'd pick up myself.

I see a license plate on it, so it must have a title. But verify that the title is clear before you make the trip out there.

$500  I would be all over that 850G like a bad rash, no way you can loose on that.

Don't know how well I'd survive the trip but I'm game. :)

'cause you're in Doc, you have a 1100GK that needs a shakedown and break in run, will be like sitting in a lazyboy, no stress to the body whatsoever. ;)

I'm thinking I still need to put tyres on it, go through all the brakes, weld up the seat pan and make a seat cover for it, change the fluids...

Should be up and running 'again' sometime this weekend.

I have case savers on the 850 and was just searching Ebay for some clamp-on highway pegs.

Yep, nice 850 for $500 (or less). You'd be like a kid in a candy shop over here. Maybe you should start buying and shipping bikes over to Dubai and Japan.
Just think, you could be a regular Wes Cooley clone.

Dude, where are you finding these??

Just on craigslist. I guess I'm lucking out. I have a call into the guy, we'll see where this one goes. I did notice it has a kickstart too, got to love that.

He called back, seems like a nice enough guy. Trying to be honest, which is a breath of fresh air. He's had it 12 years, he rode it once 12 years ago, didn't like riding and its been parked ever since. There's rust in the tank, which he's tried to clean out with some success, and it will run with starter fluid. Pipes are in good shape according to him, so I'll be heading down to look at it hopefully tonight. Wish me luck.

That's a hell of a deal, I don't even want an 850G but if that was near me I would go buy it, in a heart beat.

Best of luck on your purchase!

Thats why we have basements, to store more bikes

Hey Doc, I am sure you could adapt the ones on the GK to work on your 850, you need them more than I do, and I sure as hell ain't ever going to use them, ever.

Well I now own a 1979 Suzuki GS850. I'll have to pick her up and trailer her home this weekend, but the deal is done, hands were shaken, money and paperwork exchanged. It'll need quite a bit of work, brakes, lines, carbs, tires, gas tank cleaning, a whole lot of cleaning, but it should be fun!

Thanks for your help the past few days, and I look forward to talking to you all as things progress. As soon as I get it home I'll post some pictures. Thanks guys
