Here we go, I think I got it right finally. It's a little late to start her in my neighborhood, so I'll be turning her over in the morning...we'll see:-\\\

I'll let you know tomorrow.

Thanks again, for everything...

Oh and one last request, I have the headlight that came off of the front fairing, but it didn't have a mounting bracket to install it to the forks. Any ideas what I could do. (I know I could go online and purchase everything from scratch) Any websites to recommend?

By the way, how do I attach multiple photos to one post...it wouldn't let me attach but one photo to this post.

You'll need to use a Photobucket or Imageshack account (PLEASE GO PHOTOBUCKET) to upload multiple pictures.

Been reading thru the pages... No where was it mentioned.. DID you oil the air filter ?
It should be oiled

Man, this thing hates me....

* Tried to start, no luck!
* Carbs seem to working good though.
* Checked the plugs...1+4 misfiring...2+3 nothing, they still look brand new
* Checked the voltage going to the coils...now I'm confused again.

Here's what I found:
-The coil for 1+4, both of the wires going to the coils read 9.52.
-The coil for 2+3, one wire reads 9.52 and the other reads 1.36.

Where do I go from here? Does this mean I have a bad (brand new) coil? Or the other question, Where do those two wires start from? There is electrical tape all over the wiring on this bike, I have no way of tracing the wires without removing a lot of tape.

Or should I post this under the electircal/ignition thread.

SqDancerLynn1 - yes, I eventually figured out that the air filter needed oil...thanks.

OK, I just posted the following on the electrical forum...

* I just fixed my wires coming out of the R/R that were heated, and starting to fry. I changed the connectors and I was getting good voltage to all of my coils. (12.32)

* I went to start her up, and she turned over about 2 times then I heard a electrical pop, then the ignition button stopped working.

* All lights work.

* I took the switch apart, it's good and clean

* No fuses blew

* the starter has power to both poles

* Just checked, and now I have no power to the coils when the key is on.

Where do I look now? Is there an inline fuse that I don't no about??? Or did I blow the R/R? I'm lost...

Thanks for your time...

Hi,

You can buy a generic headlight mounting bracket to fit your forks from a lot of online aftermarket vendors, JC Whitney or Dennis Kirk just to name a couple.

Thank you for your indulgence,

SHE'S ALIVE!!! Thanks to everyone here...thank you.

I just got back from my first ride with her (in the neighborhood, but that counts in my book).

As it turns out...drum roll please....the bolts from the dyna coils I installed were touching the gas tank on both sides and shorting out the system. After extensive poking and proding, I was standing in the back of the bike, scratching my head, when I saw some "rubbing" on the frame from the tank being taken on and off. After looking a little closer at the tank, it brought me to the coil bolts. See attached pic.

I turned the bolts around, double checked everything again...and she fired right up.

She doesn't even seem to need the carb sync...but I'll do anyway. (And I haven't opened her up to 50, 60, or 70 yet...so we'll see.)

Now on to the carb sync, head light, tail lights (don't blink), getting her registered on post....yada, yada, yada....

I can't thank everyone enough who helped me out by racking their brains and dealing with me...Thank you...

Going for a ride, be back later...

Well hallelujah!!!!!!

If you've not yet, dont forget to show the brake system some loven.

Just got back, man do I miss riding. (It's been about 2 years now.)

Brake system was the very first thing I picked apart when I bought the bike, and the one thing on the bike that I understood. Brakes are great, new pads, drained/flushed/bled, with new fluid.

Relay mod is my next electrical tackle, after the sync.

Thanks guys...

Sometimes a bleed/clean will work for a while but most like to completely rebuild the entire brake system. I quietly argued this till I actually tore into a system. The calipers and mater cylinders can hide a lot of "mud" looking fluid. I took a MS apart on my 850 and was amazed the brakes even worked at all.
The rebuild kits are relatively cheap and they're pretty easy to install. Well worth the piece of mind.
It's been said that others have heard of these brakes seizing while riding.
I couldnt imagine the brakes locking up at 50mph. Might kinda suck.

Just food for thought.

Your bike is running, its a good day!

Hello everyone, I have been enjoying my ride for about a week now...thanks to everyone's help here....Thanks!

3 quick questions:

1st - When I get to a stoplight/stop sign, and put her in neutral or hold in the clutch, the rpms take a longtime to settle down to a normal idle...any thoughts why?

2nd - She doesn't like to drop into neutral, it takes me forever to find neutral. Any thoughts on how to fix it?

3rd - I need a turn signal relay...any recommendations of which one to get...I can't seem to find my exact model online, so I'm assuming that I have to buy an aftermarket comparable one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hope everyone is enjoying their bikes, I know I am enjoying mine.

Thanks again!

1. You might have a hanging idle somehow. I need to check mine out as I might have one too. Check the tuning screws on the sides of the intake boots, make sure you replaced the orings on those boots, and look everything over. Course it could also be nothing.

2. Adjust your clutch per the manual

3. Any turn signal relay from the local auto parts shop will work for you. Just find one that matches your current - if two then buy a two prong. However, some of the three prongs won't work if you have the self-cancelling signals.
