A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've been working for a week on a GS1100EZ. It was passed along to me with no title, no carbs and a lot of worries. It has less than 9K on the clock and has been is storage in a damp rodent infested shed for 11 years. The frame is now rust free and painted, the wiring is repaired (pita), and the aluminum is shiney. I bought a set of carbs on eBay and it was missing one needle jet. If anyone has a jet marked X-3 not being used we could do business. Meanwhile I have bought another set of carbs. Not here yet. When this is over I will have carbs and parts for sale I guess. An issue I need help with is the anti-dive forks. This is completely foreign to me. How does it work and does it work? I drained about 100cc of funky fluid from each tube. How much should these forks hold? My Manual is the only GS1100 one I could find (clymer) and it does not address these forks. Is the factory manual still available? I will appreciate any information I can get. I've been riding and wrenching for over 50 years but there's still so much to learn - -
Thanks for any help
Lee :-D

Hey Lee, Welcome to the EZ Club. Ive been working on mine for 25 years. Use the search feature. Enter Anti Dive grab a beer, or seven, and start reading. Lots of good info !!

If you have to PM Road Clam he can explain the anti dive better than anyone.

Before you attempt to put any of those carbs in service, do yourself a favor and tear them down and replace all the various O-rings. Robert Barr, a member here, sells O-ring kits for a very reasonable price. http://cycleorings.com/

The anti-dive fork works by closing a damping port in the fork when the brakes are applied. The value of said device is very much questionable and many people just plug the line and be done with it.

Good luck and welcome to the forum. :)

Thanks Nessism, I got 4 carb kits before I got the carbs.
Know anyone who might have that X-3 needle jet?

They work by shutting off a valve that restricts fork oil flow on compression when the brakes are used. Does it work? Well, it will almost certainly cause mushy brakes and many headaches bleeding them. The system is really a crutch designed to minimize fork dive under braking with the soft stock springs. It adds harshness under braking and is generally counterproductive in my experience. You are much better off to blank them off and install stiffer springs and heavier oil in the forks. They will work better everywhere and not have excessive dive problems. I don't have my manual in front of me, but I can look it up at home and let you know the stock oil level (or amount, whichever they specify) if you want.

Yes, the factory manual is still available. I ordered mine form my local dealer and had it inside of 2 weeks.
