A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

So had to replace my pushrod and went ahead and did the oil seal and the retainer peice right away. Just got it back toget her n after firing it up I'm getting a slow drop from the seal. Is it possible that it will swell and seal itself up? If not can I put rtv sealant around the outside to stop it ya think? Took me a couple weeks to find these parts and don't want to go through that again if possible. I just wanna ride!

Its a 1982 gs550l. I just put a new oil seal around the clutch pushrod I just installed and believe that is where it's leaking from. Like an idiot I put the side cover back over the front sprocket without checking for leaks.

Well get some simple green if its greasy again and clean it up and dry it off good. Start it and see whats going on. I had a leaking shifter shaft seal and I changed that in like 10 minutes. leaned the bike over to the right against a wall and used a screw sunk into the seal to yank it out. tapped the new one in and was leak free again. You may be able to do the same with the pushrod seal. I will find the picture of the screw in the seal for you. Yanked a few times with the vice grips and it popped out fine.

This will ruin the seal but it will maybe get yours out if it doesnt seal itself soon. Just ride it till the new seal shows up and then do the swap???

Yeah that is how I had to get it out is with the screw method. Really hope that it does seal itself up as I do not want to have to go through that again it's not too hard but I'm pretty busy lately. Thank you for the help it is greatly appreciated. Just wondering have you ever had a rubber oil seal leak when first installed but then stop on its own or if it leaks is it going to leak?

Sometimes they will actually. Heat and some expansion and they seal..run it a while and see. It isnt like its leaving a puddle over night is it?? ride it and park on a piece of cardboard till winter...LOL

I just hope the screw didnt hit the cases itself and nick it.m In that case some sealer will be needed.
