    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New sprockets, new chain, front sprocket doesn't fit, WTF?

I wanted to replace the sprockets and chain on my 80gs1000e as the chain and the rear sprocket were visibly shot. So I go and order stock front and rear (15/42) steel sprockets and a new 630 RK chain from http://www.sprocketspecialists.com/html/suzuki10.shtml

New chain fits the new rear sprocket just fine but will not fit around the new front sprocket even though its the stock replacement? It fits on the old front sprocket just fine (which actually looks to be in good shape). The new front is 15 tooth (stock) and the 630 chain starts to sit on it alright but when I try and wrap it around all the way the chain seems too tight and I can't wrap it around all the way.....chain will not fit it. Now.....the old stretched out chain fit around my new front sprocket no problem. Is my new chain just too tight? I put on the new chain and new rear sprocket so all's well now. I called sprocketspecialists and they confirmed that they sent the right front sprocket to me (#555, 15 tooth steel) Anybody have any ideas?

Also, the front sprocket I have on there now which is still good is 15 tooth and steel but it looks different from this new stock one I got. The new one has 3 phillips screws and looks to be basically 3 pieces. One on there now is one piece. On the new stock replacement front, one side allows the sprocket to set in about 1/4-1/8 inch with the phillips screws facing me and is flush on the other side with the screws facing the engine. Which way should it mount? I am at a loss here........... ](*,)
 
The original front sprocket does have three phillips screws, to hold the spacers on each side of the sprocket. The spacers have rubber cushioning. There should be a spacer on both sides of the sprocket.

How do the old and new sprockets line up when you compare them against each other?

From memory, you have to feed the chain on and then do the master link as it is a tight fit when new, very close to needing no adjustment at all. If it is an endless chain, put the chain on the sprockets before putting the swingarm bolt back in. make sure it is a 96 link chain.

Nope, I can't see any numbers stamped anywhere. I'm going to post pictures tonight of the new sprocket and the old one. My order says #555 front sprocket but its not stamped on it.

You are right on with the description of the new sprocket. But the side with the philips heads is flush where as the other side allows one to set the sprocket 1/4 to 1/8 inch in. Do the philips heads face out to me or towards the bike? These 2 different mountings place the sprocket at different places...........

I got a 96 link chain with a clip master link. I also have an extra rivited master link which I will need that special tool to mount correctly in order to form the endless link. I do not like the clip style link. ](*,)

If I recall correctly, both front sprockets teeth lined up when stacked on top of each other......I'll recheck tonight.
