DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New stator but my voltage is dropping

Better question. Did you replace the stator with the CORRECT stator? There were TWO different stators (actually THREE if you count the big ones the 1100s later on used) a 12 pole and an 18 pole. If youve got a 12 pole stator in an 18 pole rotor, you're not going to get the proper voltage. If the stator is testing good from the stator only, then something is up with this.

Very good point there! I dont know how to tell which pole this is? Still should put out 60v+ thought eh? I bought it off of ebay and my bike was listed in the application and I even specified in the transaction. $101 or something - I shot off an email to rmstator and hope I get back some news!
This is really the last piece to the puzzle with me finishing the mechanics on this thing!

No, its not LARGER, it simply has more or less poles, and the charging rotor that rotates around it has positive and negative magnets to corospond to the number of poles on the stator. If they arent matched up, it wont be "on-off" right.

In that case would you be able to see 2 circles on the rotor because it has 2 magnets ? Or hold a peice of metal near the rotor and see if its atracted to 2 spots on the rotor and not 1 ?
Being fairly new to these bikes I havent come across this yet so I'm learning.

I think it was determined that a 18 pole stator had a rotor with 3 magnets and a 12 pole one with 2 magnets forming a circle. You will be able to see the magnets.

Run a screwdriver or somthing steel around the inside of the rotor. Note where you start. There should be, with the 12 pole set up, 6 points of attraction. With the 18 pole, there should be 9, i believe.

I read this on electrosport's site. A tech note on the page with the RR's

"NOTE: These 8-valve GS750 models have a 12-pole three phase stator that has identical dimensions to the later 18-pole units (=ElectroSport ESG010). You can use an ESG010 in these older 8-valve models, but you will have to use the later model (80-83) GS850 flywheel. If you fail to change the flywheel the number of magnet poles does not match the stator and you will have NO OUTPUT from your new 18-pole stator."

I do believe that is my problem! 850 Flywheel anybody? ha! I will get the right stator, but in the meantime I know the screws were all sorts of stripped out when installing. I need new screws again.. Any suggestions? Know where to allen heads?

McMaster Carr, or Fastenal. Both have online stores. You'll simply need the dimensions of the bolt you need. And, they'll be stainless, not that it matters cos they'll be constantly bathed in oil...

One other thing to check is, the leg wires. After putting in a new RMStator into my 82 1100L I ran fine for about two weeks, then started having charging issues again. What I found is that the wires soldered onto the stator to extend the legs out had cheap casings. Where they went though the oil plug grommet in the stator cover, they had actually started to short together so that my stator resistance was showing as .2 ohms instead of the .5-.8 ohms it should have been. However when I removed and separated the wires the resistance went up to the specified resistance. So rather then having to order a whole new stator, I just got some good wire from Auto Zone and soldered new legs onto the stator after removing the old.
