DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New steering stops

So I have installed my bandit 1200 front end on my gs1000. I had to remove the original steering stops now I need new ones.

The forks of course hit the tank without any. I was thinking 1/4-3/8" clearance between forks and tank, I never checked the original clearance :-k

Opinions or suggestions welcome and thanks,
Daryl

Make sure that you leave enough clearance so that your thumb can't get caught between the grips and the tank. If you don't you could loose a thumb in a crash.

Ive seen people here modify their steering stops by drilling and tapping the stops on the forks and then using a bolt to adjust from there.

I have seen that also. The stops on the 1999 bandit is not large enough for this option. I have to weld the stop on the frame steering tube.

Steering Stops GS 1100ez

I installed a new steering neck on my miler bike, and in using hayabusa front forks will be welding new stops on this week.I will be using some 3/16 cr along with a tab on each side for adj.bolts.As I will need to limit my steering travel to 15 deg. left and right(30 total) per rules.I'll post a pic or two later this week.As a precaution,if you do weld on some stops, you might think about replacing outer races if you put alot of heat into stops attachment.Especially if their older cups an cones:-s Later Rich

I did this on my Kawi Elimininator 900. I installed an Eliminator 1000 tank so I wouldn't run out of gas at 80 miles. If I had not done the steering stop mod, it would have smashed my tank into the bars at full stop. (Thumbs are replaceable, these days. ZL1000 gas tanks are almost extinct.)

You might be able to see the mod in this pic. At least you can see the Progressive 412's....
