It's an "across the frame" four, but it doesn't sound like your standard 4---
More like the "Long Bang" Yamaha or Big Bang bikes of old...

So why did they go away from the inline 4 to the V anyway?

This thing sounds like it has a 90 degree TDC crank . every rod throw has a separate TDC-- instead of the 180 degree twin pair like ol GSs' ? nice exhaust pipes too.

I read - and it makes sense -- going back to the success of the GSXR away from the Gamma ... the sales will increase in the general production market . money money money

Honda uses a V4. Yamaha' s GP bike is a crossplane inline 4 (crossplane is Yamaha lingo for 90 degree crank).
