also what do you mean by tying together the rear engine mounts?

There is so much knowledge here it can be overwhelming at times but I like to learn so this is good. I swapped the gs1100 motor into my gs1000 frame this weekend and just have a few small things to take care of. runs and drives tho.

next step. nitrous. how much is to much? how much do i start with and how much has safely been used on a stock motor.

If you with go with No2 then set it up with 80hp shot then use a progressive controller to lower the power but 80hp is the most I would use on a stock motor. When you buy a kit throw the fuel pump in the corner and get a real fuel pump at least a 12lbs pump regulate it down to 8&9psi and use the same size No2 jet as fuel jet. 24n/24f should yield you around 80hp.
I going to use 26n/26f at 9lbs fuel pressure on my pro et bike should be good for around 100hp. But I will use a No2 controller to only use what I need to get to 8.20.

FIRST thing, what year is your 1100 motor? If it is pre 83, it needs the crank welded & a heavy duty clutch hub before ANYTHING else!!! This is to keep it from killing itself!!!
Ray.

you may want to consider the advice about welding a crank and beefing up the basket - early cranks go out of phase without power adders.

it is a 1981. Yikes! i really wasnt looking to open the motor up. clutch upgrade is one thing, but im looking to see what the stock motor is capable of. what is entailed with welding the crank exactly?

If you don't weld the crank, under cut the tranny and beef up the clutch basket then you can't drag race it.
Oh did I mention you don't weld a Bandit/GSXR crank. High 9.30's on a un touched bottom.

Sorry Bud , I keep forgetting what it costs and all the details to sustain 140++ HP all motor GS - gosh, is it that easy to forget spending thousand after thousand,,, stet is making me wonder why my 89 gsxr 1100 has dust all over it.

Remove the engine from the bike, remove top end, split the cases, box crank & ship to John Pearson in Ohio, Stan Gardner in Maine or Bob Mosher in Florida to have done CORRECTLY. Or you can run the one you have till it blows up, destroying the cases usually, & then start over & do it the right way the second time.
Ray,

jkrum87 all I will say is you have 3 of the best guys giving you advice ,take it !!!!! don't get me wrong there is few more on here that will help and not steer you wrong, I would do as they say , or you will just spend money for no reason , I have been reading all I can from them on building a better motor ,

I appreciate all the advice from everyone. This is my first drag bike so im looking to keep costs to a minimal. im into the 1100 motor for $300 so frankly, if it blows, it blows.... However i would like to do things the right way. Im sure i can find another engine to rip apart and have the crank done, and at that point im sure plenty of other things will be upgraded as well. In the mean time, this motor only has 2050 miles on it. so can i use it in its stock form with stock clutch just to get used to launching and the feel of the bike before putting in the worked motor? or is this clutch just gonna blow if the tire gets traction?

More than likely, the first time the tire hooks good it will twist the crank. Then you will be done.
Ray.

not exactly the information i wanted to hear, but i am very glad that you informed me. just got a new shinko hook up so im assuming if i try launching this thing its just going to grenade correct? or highly likely anyway?

i may have the opportunity to purchase a 1985 gs1150 motor sometime in the near future. would this be a better bet as far as leaving the motor stock with a small bit of nitrous or a little bit of boost? or even just being able to launch the bike in general? or is it necessary to weld the crank and do clutch work with either motor?

ooh are you saving it for me. 89 GSXR1100 is my favorite year

as much as I love the the 1150s and yes it is a great platform to start with but since you already changed the motor I would strongly suggest you go with the GSXR/Bandit motor. Did I mention you can drop in 30/26mm valves in the stock seat. Here is the diddy on my build for my sons 98 Bandit.

98 red Bandit 1200S 1216cc, 30/26 Nicely ported head,.100 off head,.400 in..370 ex. 109/111 L/C 41 Keihins, Dana 2000 ign., coils, shift light, 89GSXR clutch, 92 GSXR clutch basket, MRE air/eletric shifter with MPS kill box, 05 Busa frontend, brakes, wheels, Penske shock,1250 swing arm, 1st gen Busa Exoticycle 4'' to 8'' extension 66"w/b Best so far 6.04@121mph 9.38@144mph, best mph 122 in the 1/8th and 146 in the 1/4 mile. I did the 122 mph at a 6.08. When it was at 64" wheel base.

i would be more worried about the small taper on the alt. rotor if your going to push button start it(unless you remove the magnet).
the HD basket mod is a must.
also your bike is HEAVY!
the cheapest way to go faster in the beginning is to LOSE WEIGHT.
grab some GS400 forks and wire wheel with a ribbed tire or slick...single disk ect...
going fast and having a low budget does NOT go together.
i (myself) being 240lbs at the time ran 10.50's on a dead stock 81 GS1100 engine with no second gear.
this was in a small tire drag chassis with RS36 carbs.
i would launch on the 2 step set at around 9 grand and double button from 1st to 3rd...10.50's at maybe 118 mph max.

can you elaborate a little on this for me.(^ small taper, and removing magnet?) Its going to be lets say 75% street bike 25% track bike. for now any way, so im not worried about being that fastest person out, just looking to have fun. 9's would be nice and 10's i would assume is expected. you didnt have any problems with the crank launching that high?

not done yet, but i got a lot of parts powder coated, wheels, swing-arm, brakes, and a bunch of other small peices. new tires (180 shinko hook up in the rear) new chain and sprockets (530 i think). still have some more parts to polish up or have powder coated. Still on the look out for a local 1150 motor or a later 1100 so i don't have to worry about opening up the bottom end. I also have to address the clutch basket issue. not sure if i should send it out, or if theres is some one local here in new york that can handle moding my stock basket.

any years in specific that i should be looking for?

edit: looks like 89-91? for the gsxr is a the better option? and not sure yet on the bandit 1200's

ok well i figured it was time for an update. finally got her out to the track a few times and had a blast. first run was 11.8 best was 11.2 @119. no issues with the stock motor with non welded crank as of yet (besides being slow), but its also still a stock motor/stock carbs. after almost 20 passes and about 500 street miles the clutch started slipping. i sent the clutch basket out to mtc for heavy duty springs, back plate etc. also ordered new ebc fibers and oem metal plates.

I also got a pretty good deal on a wet nitrous kit (nitrous express piranha kit). i will be building a nice little motor this winter. planning on being capable of running mid-low 9s motor, 8s on the juice. im hoping that i can do all this while still being able to ride on the street every now and again.?will reach out for info on this when the time comes. now, i am new to nitrous, i dont want to learn on a freshly built motor. i also want to go faster right now. i am planning on hooking up the kit to the stock motor this weekend. does anyone have any experience with nitrous and the 81 motor? i am going to start out small (40 shot) and if shes still going closer to the end of the season ill try and turn it up a bit. just trying to figure out if any one else has tested the limits on a stock motor (with heavy duty basket), any help will be appreciated.
