A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi everyone!
So my boyfriend bought a 1988 GS450LJ, pretty much as a project for me and for him to eventually learn how to ride (It's a weird backwards relationship, I know) and I stumbled across this site. Already found some really helpful information reading around these posts, so I just wanted to introduce myself and thank you all for your help!

Welcome! Not so weird. I ride and my husband has never learned to ride.

Welcome to the site.
If you have been looking around the site you know pics of your new bike are required.[at least encouraged].
A 450 is a good starting size to learn some basic wrenching and riding. An MSF course should be in your future.

+1 on a MSF course!
They will go over the basics and your 450 will be right on par for weight and handling to a class bike. The 450 is a great little machine, great on gas and plenty of getup and go. Look for Bass Cliffs site, run through all the maintenance items and she will be ready to roll.
Good luck and ride safe!
Welcome!

The 450 is a great one to learn and KEEP... lots a power and you can break the speed limit anywhere anytime lol

By all means, post pics of your bike if you can. We like pictures and we're a pretty friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to ask questions.

See the link in my signature for BassCliff's mega-welcome. Follow the links further to find service manuals, tutorials, the whole nine yards.

Welcome!

Thanks everyone!! I will take some pictures tonight and post. It's not the prettiest looking bike right now, just a forewarning lol. In due time :) I also have already checked out Bass Cliffs site, its helped me out SO much. You guys are awesome.

Oh and fyi, I took that course a long time ago. I'm not the new rider, the boyfriend is lol. But thank you all!!

Beauty is in the eye of , well YOU AND ME lol..
Its still a 450 Suzuki, one of the BEST bikes going. the fact that someone spray bombed it means nothing to me.
The rest of the story tells the truth.
I'm finding it harder and harder to find bikes of this vintage that are not molested beyond hope in one way or another.
If your bike runs then that is fantastic. Learn to keep up on maintenance, adjustments and repairs and the bike will reward you with many more years of friendship!!

Haha, yeah the spraypaint job is....horrific. Especially up close, the picture actually does it some justice lol. It runs strong though, its a blast to ride. I think eventually I want to bob it out.... maybe? Idk. For now, I'm happy.
