A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What a great place to find....wow. the level of info here is unreal. I have a quick question. Will the tank and seat from an early E model, 1978-1980 fit onto a -79 L model??>.......I don't care for the look or the riding position of the L model especially compared to the E model. Thx.

In a word, ... NO. :-k

With a few more details, ... it would be nice to know what bike is being discussed, but the tanks are still not interchangeable. The mounting points are different, as well as petcock locations. If you consider the '80 tanks, you even get a different petcock that is not interchangeable with anything else.

Hopefully, you are asking these questions while in bike-searching mode, and have not already purchased a bike. If you HAVE already purchased an L, sell it and get what you really want.

Depending on exactly what part of the look you don't like, some of it can be changed. The riding position can be modified a bit with different handlebars, the seat will take a bit more work. Mechanically, the bikes are pretty much the same.

WOuld be usefull to know what year of the donor bike, becuase some things changed in tank and seat over the years (and associted things on frame).

But basically, no, E and L seat and tank not interchangeable.

If you want to modify the "L" out of it, changing the bars to something more like stock G or E bars goes a long way toward that, nd that is not difficult, just hve extra lenght of cables to reroute.
Modifying the seat is not easy.

Thx guys....my intention was to purchase a nice '79 L model for next to nothing and then graft a seat/tank combo off a 78-79 1000E model and change the bars to normalize the riding position. But if it requires cutting and welding, I think I'll pass...not up for that right now. Thx for the help. U saved me from a mistake.
