A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Newby '84 1150ef rebuild advice.

So I inherited a GS with two frozen plugs, all attempts to remove the plug cores failed so off with the heads and carbs.

After a two hour wrestling match with the carbs it's time to clean and maybe rebuild, the GS hasn't run in nearly 20 yrs and 28K kms/17K miles what are the forum experts suggestions?

My first observation, these things are not maintenance friendly as far as removal, is there a different filter arrangement than the stock set up that would allow for easier removal in the future?

Are there carb kits that the forum recommends, and carb kits to avoid?

Are these carbs someone with only a basic mechanical knowledge can handle or should I hand it over to an expert?

Thanks that was a great Tutorial Steve, I think I can I cope with that.

Are there any particular brand of rebuild kits that you'd recommend?

I searched the web for individual air filters and there a few, will they affect the performance of the GS.

Do I need to adjust the carb jetting if I go that route?

No carb kits at all, just O rings

Why switch to pods? If you do it correctly, this will be the only time you pull the carbs

Not only will you have to rejet, you'll need a dynojet kit

Carbs cleaned everything inside was okay, just need rings to arrive for reassembly. The forum resources were invaluable in assisting with that job.

Got my cylinder head back last week, Frozen plugs removed from cylinder two helicoils put in, and the head rebuilt.

Cylinders honed and cleaned. I expect my gaskets, piston rings and many more parts to showing up at my door over the next two or three weeks.

So the carbs are all cleaned and partly assembled and I thought I should record the main jet size I before I put it together and install it on the engine. I found carbs 1 and 4 are 120 and 2 and 3 are 122.5, Is this normal? The carbs had been rebuilt once before 25yrs ago is there any reason someone would've deliberately done this?

You can download a manual for your bike here and then look up the jet numbers...http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/

It wouldn't surprise me if Suzuki used staggered jets like that.
