    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

newer bike question - mercury switch or something...?

Checked out an '01 gsxr1000 the other day that was in an accident. The accident was very minor - bike was hit in the back wheel while the owner was making a low speed turn. Bike went down and slid for a bit on the left side. The damage that i saw was very minor; just some rash on the left side, bent back wheel and the the alt. cover i guess it would be (left case) had a hole in the bottom of it from the slide. Everything seemed fine for the price the guy was asking but when i put the key in to see if everything was fine, it had no power at all. Dash didn't light up or anything. I had ridden my 700E over to check it out so I pulled the battery out of it and hooked it up thinking the bat. was dead from sitting for a month. Still no power at all. makes me wonder if it has a mercury switch or something that that kills all electric when the bike goes down. anyone know?

There is a tip over switch in that bike. Not quite sure where it's at though, I've heard you should remove it if you're going to race one, so it doesn't cut out when putting a knee down.
 
do you know if that cuts all power? does it have to be reset manually? Guess I should call the dealer tomorrow.

Looks like an easy enough fix. Use the fact that it won't start to your advantage when negotiating then get it home and disable the switch. According to the website Luke posted you can't completely remove since it is linked to the bike's computer. Just fix the donut shaped part of the switch so it can't move.
