    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

no brake light or gas gauge

Hoping for some help...

Originally my entire dash lights were dead, including my gas gauge (stayed on empty), as well as my brake light.

I replaced the main fuse (15A) and now the dash lights (speedo, tach, neutral, etc) are working, but the gas gauge and the brake light are still dead.

When I test the fuse with my volt circuit tester, the light (on the tester) never comes on...

Any where else obvious I should look to get the brake light and gas gauge back on?
 
Do you still have the glass tube fuses? If so, it's probably broke under the caps where you can't see it. You should have power on both sides with the ignition switch on.

Not as familiar with the '79, so I have to ask, how many fuses in the panel?

Are there 4 or 5 fuses? A 5-fuse panel will have screws at one end for the accessory terminals at the end, a 4-fuse panel will not have the ACC screws on the end.

At one end will be the LIGHTS fuse, it provides power to the headlight, tail light and instrument lights.
The next fuse is the SIGNALS fuse, it provides power to the turn signals, brake light, horns and warning lights (neutral, low oil).
The next fues is the IGNITION fuse, it provides power to the coils and points.
The fourth fuse is the MAIN fuse. It provides power to the ignition switch, when then provides power to the other three fuses.

You said your test light did not light on one of the fuses. Any chance you tested the other end of the fuse? That would tell you if that fuse is good.

It's a four fuse set, vertically (from top to bottom):

- main (15A)
- HD Lamp (10A)
- Signal (10A)
- Ignition (10A)


The "Main" fuse is the one that's dead. Meaning, when I touch my volt tester to either side of the fuse, it doesn't light up. I've tried replacing it, but the only thing that happened was that some of the lights started working (dash lights, etc), but not all (brake and gas gauge).

There is another random fuse that is up and to the right by itself, with it's own cover. That one too is dead... but not sure what it's for... I've tried replacing this one as well, but no luck.

The gas gauge and the brake lights are fed by the SIGNALS fuse.

The separate fuse is the ACCessory fuse. There are probably some screw terminals near it that allow you to attach wires for accessories.
