DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

No Engine Number Mystery - Plate is Blank

Just wondered if anyone has seen one of these before?

The engine number plate does not look as if it's been filed off. The surface area is pitted.

Why doesn't it have a number?

It's on a recently acquired GS1150 / GSX1100 lump.

Greetings

You just need some letter and number stamps....!
(God help the "Chicagoan" left in me...)

Replacement cases - thrown chain wrecked the originals, likely. Mucho moolah in the day.

I can see a hint of the old #'s they have been eaten away with acid you got a stolen motor.
What do you do now?

Never heard of anyone using acid to get rid of numbers...

The only hint of previous stamping I can see is what looks like a "figure eight" shape, but it's definitely not an "8" from previous numbers. The proportions are way off, and the position isn't right.

I just looked at the three spare 1st gen 750/550 engines that I have in the shop, and all of them have a smooth machined looking surface on the boss where the numbers are stamped. I'm not sure if the tscc engines had a typical rough cast finish to them there as in your photo, or if it was acid etched. The warranty engine/engine cases was the only thing that came to my mind when I saw the title of your post, however.

The surface does not look right to me either. Never saw any with so many holes. Acid can make holes like that... especially on die-cast or magnesium. I know from being the chrome plater's wife.
Also, I do not see the oval ridge around the numbers being raised and even. Looks suspicious to me. (I'd have someone re-tap the numbers and letters into that spot...)

We rebuilt an old Kaw 900 many years ago. There were no stamps on the brand new cases. Had to get a "homemade" title, which sent an inspector from the Dept. of Transportation to check out the bike.
Save yourself some trouble and do it yourself. (Or, have a buddy help you.)

this thread is getting goofy...hahahhha
these bikes are titled off the neck vin...engine #'s has nothing to do with anything.
i'm with dar...replacement cases with some age to them...beat/bang marks from over the years.
scuff and paint..call it good.

Right-side up...

That black engine paint covers up a multitude of sins.

My race bikes have cases like that.... no vin stamp. They were purchased from Suzuki as replacement cases just as Dar and BB said
