Okay I read every thread there is on what to lube a speedo/tach cable with and all of them worked for sometimes up to 1000mi and then back to getting greasy hands again and I've got better things to do
That is basically a monthly occurance now that I live in a decent climate and can ride anytime I want.
So enough. I bought a new OEM speedo cable and tach cable(because mine was separated but still worked) from Bike Bandit for a small amount of money. The shipping was like $8 so had to wait until I needed several things to justify the fedex from CA to FL.
The interesting thing is that the new cables are both packed fully with a very sticky grease similar to the old army cosmolene or plumber's grease of yore. The speedo is now rock steady at any speed and falls immediately when I let off the throttle too.
Money well spent but if I ever find out what that stuff is they put in at the factory I'll buy a tube and fill my old cables with it for another experiment.
Anyone actually know what that sticky stuff is? It's about 1/2 as thick as beeswax and twice as thick as vasoline. But it is awesome. Probably costs more than the cables in a gallon bucket full only
